MEET KELLY PEAKS, OUR NEW CHESAPEAKE CONSERVATION CORPS VOLUNTEER
|
Kelly graduated from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY in May 2018, where she studied Environmental Science with a concentration in policy. She previously interned with the American Meteorological Society where she studied environmental gentrification in Washington, DC. While at EFC, Kelly will work on getting GPS coordinates of pet waste stations for a new app, editing and posting new actions on the Sustainable Maryland website, unveiling a new SM certification tier, working with the Municipal Online Stormwater Training program (MOST) on stormwater webinars, as well as with the Environmental Finance Network on resilience workshops. Her capstone project will focus on working with the Town of North Brentwood on to form a Green team and gain SM certification in 2019. QUOTE
|
"It's a line in the sand and what it says to our species is that this is the moment and we must act now. This is the largest clarion bell from the science community and I hope it mobilises people and dents the mood of complacency."
--Debra Roberts, a co-chair
of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which released a new report in October warning of severe impacts from climate change as early as 2040
