LOCAL ACTION: MONTGOMERY COUNTY STORMWATER SUMMIT RECAP
On June 6 SM staff hosted a Montgomery County Stormwater Summit for Homeowners at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton. This event, part of larger project funded by a Chesapeake Bay Trust grant and the Montgomery County Water Quality Charge, was attended by more than 70 folks from all across the county.
Local government agencies and regional watershed associations that staffed exhibit tables at this event included the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection, Rock Creek Conservancy, Little Falls Watershed Alliance, and the Muddy Branch Alliance, each of which explained the unique support and technical services that they provide to towns and neighborhoods in the County.

Michelle Kokolis and John Maleri from Rock Creek Conservancy

This summer SM staff will be working specifically with the Wheaton Hills Civic Association, Glenmont Forest Neighbors Civic Association, and McKenney Hills-Carroll Knolls Civic Association to provide residents with targeted information about the County's stormwater-related programs, as well as providing these communities with basic watershed assessments that will identify and prioritize issues and potential future projects.

Sarah Morse, Executive Director, Little falls Watershed Association

EFC STUDENT PROFILE: NOAH MAGHSADI
Noah at High Rock Overlook, Pen Mar Park, Washington Count

After completing a joint BA/MA program at the University of Maryland, College Park, Noah graduated in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in Anthropology and a master's degree in Public Policy, specializing in environmental policy. Noah's undergraduate career took him first to Peru, where he studied Macaw behavior, and then to Istanbul, for a semester abroad. Noah's love for travel did not stop as an undergraduate. During his master's program, he traveled with a winter abroad program to Indonesia to study complex socio-ecological systems and sustainable development. Noah's public policy coursework focused on climate policy, sustainability, and natural resource conservation, which was strengthened through real-world experience, while he worked as a student consultant with the World Resources Institute (WRI). As a student consultant at WRI, he identified cases of transformative adaptation, studied their drivers, and created recommendations for governments looking to engage in these large-scale transformations.

At the EFC, Noah supports management of the MOST Center website, is facilitating the addition of new actions to the Sustainable Maryland program, and assists with a variety of research needs. Noah is currently looking for an environmental policy position in the D.C. area, where he hopes to use the skills he has gained during his time as a student and his time at the EFC.
