Dear Spartan Families,
Our sixth graders left yesterday for Astro Camp in Idyllwild. They have been looking forward to this right of passage for a long time! The students will explore space and science activities including telescope use, rocketry, and other STEM-based activities.
It is wonderful to see many parents and younger siblings joining us for our Monday morning assemblies. Praying together and sharing SMA news starts the day off quite nicely. Next week our assembly will be on Tuesday morning (since tomorrow is a minimum day and Monday the school is closed for a WASC/WCEA preparation day). Keep in mind that school begins at 8:00 am and students arriving after 8:05 will need to obtain a tardy slip from the office.
On May 6th, we are hosting a beautiful and engaging Grandparents' Day. At the beginning of the school year, you provided grandparent addresses for mailing invitations. Please contact the school office if you have any address updates. Our teachers are working diligently with students on grade-level performances on the big stage after grandparents enjoy breakfast, Mass, and classroom visits. The timing of this event is ideal for celebrating Mother's Day with out-of-town grandmothers 2 days later.
Events such as these wouldn't be possible without parent volunteers. Please consider attending our SMA Parent Group open meeting on Wednesday, April 6th via Zoom at 6 pm. All parents, teachers, and staff are encouraged to attend. Nominations for postponed elections will be discussed along with plans for next school year. Officer Watkins from the La Mesa Police Department will be presenting helpful information about the growing concern for kids mistaking marijuana-infused items for common everyday products as well as the surprisingly high use of vape pens/inhalants amongst junior high students.
As I close, please remember to take a moment to reflect upon your commitment to pray, fast, and give during this season of Lent. Our children follow our example. To capitalize on this by saying bedtime prayers together or giving money or time to your favorite charity.
Almighty and Everlasting God,
You have given the human race
Jesus Christ our Savior as a model of humility.
He fulfilled Your Will by becoming Man
And giving His life on the Cross.
Help us to bear witness to You
By following His example of suffering
And make us worthy to share in His Resurrection.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son.
Amen.
In Mission,
Jennifer Miller
