SMA Newsletter • March 24 2022
Dear Spartan Families,

Our Walkathon was a spectacular success!  Everyone enjoyed themselves and had a fantastic day! Even Fr. Elmer joined the walk.

It was a huge endeavor! So far we have received $21,877.00, which exceeds our goal of $20,000 in donations!  Please note that expenses have not been deducted from this figure and the financial report will be in our newsletter soon, which will also include our generous sponsors. We extend “congratulations” for a great job to Tracy Giordano, chairperson of the event, and a shout out to "DJ", Jarrod Belprez (SMA alum). This is Tracy’s eighth year chairing this event.

Special thanks to our corporate sponsors: San Diego Drain Krew, San Diego Applied Behavior Analysis, Chlorine Genie, Coldwell Banker West - Tracy Giordano, Law Office of Genevieve A. Suzuki, and Best Price Auto Glass. We also want to thank the Crockett family who sponsored the popsicles.

Students are writing “thank you” letters to be sent to every person who was kind enough to make a donation. Students in grades 4-8 will be completing their letters in class this week (and taking them home so postage can be added). Students in grades K-3 will be completing their thank you's at home and returning them to the school. Please return all thank you's to school in the white envelopes so they can be processed. Once every class has completed their "thank you's", the class will get a free dress day in May.

Tomorrow is "Spring" dress day with Lifetouch pictures. Even if you are not purchasing pictures, your child may come to school in free dress.
Finally, check out the 4pm NBC newscast today featuring our junior high students discussing their social justice project to support Ukraine refugees! I am so proud of our students. Though this particular project is being highlighted, there are so many students who devote their time to prayer and finding tangible ways to support others.

California School Choice Initiative
Every child deserves a choice of the school they attend
“The Educational Freedom Act”
Did you know? Parents of every Californian child have the freedom to spend $14,000 provided by the State of California at a school of their choice. The key is the direction of state education tax dollars into the hands of parents. That funding follows the student without conditions, mandates, or means testing. Every California family and every California student is treated equally.
COVID-19 Protocal
As a reminder, masks are still strongly encouraged indoors (and still optional outdoors) and will continue to be available in the school office. Please screen your child for symptoms prior to leaving for school each morning. Do not send your child to school (vaccinated or unvaccinated) if they have any of the symptoms listed: fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, the new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and/or diarrhea.
