Dear SMA Community,
This week has been filled with a variety of emotions from happiness watching our 8th graders prepare for graduation to anxiety completing all the fine details for year-end events and combing through hundreds of emails to make sure I haven't missed anything pertinent to completing the school year. Through it all, God provides me energy and keeps me centered knowing that what I am feeling is so small compared to our students who are saying good-bye to a huge chapter in their lives. I feel confident sending them out to the big world of high school knowing that we have done our job here at SMA providing students with ample experience navigating the SLEs and opportunities to make the right choices.
Many of these opportunities have been thanks to our volunteers. Catholic school volunteers play a crucial role in Catholic education, embodying the spirit of selflessness and service. Their dedication and commitment contribute to creating a nurturing environment for students to learn and grow in their faith. Our volunteers deserve heartfelt appreciation for their tireless contributions, as their unwavering support positively impacts the lives of countless students, teachers, and families. Their service exemplifies the Gospel message and strengthens the mission of Catholic education, nurturing the next generation of compassionate and socially responsible individuals. We hope you enjoyed yesterday's program led by our SMA musicians, singers, and dancers!
This final week (of June 3rd): Please consider joining us for the staff-vs 8th-grade volleyball game at 1:30 pm Tuesday and the farewell assembly at 1:30 pm on Wednesday. All are invited to attend the Graduation Mass next Friday, June 7th at 3 pm to celebrate the Class of 2024.
Next Thursday 6/6 is free dress for all summer birthdays! It's also field day, thanks to our incoming 2024-2025 Student Council. All students without summer birthdays should wear PE uniforms. It's going to be a super fun week! Report cards and STAR reports will be sent home with students on the last day of school, 6/7, and SpartanCare will be closed.
In Peace,
Jennifer Miller, Principal

After much reflection, I have decided to embark on a new chapter in my life. I will be moving to Pittsburgh to continue my teaching journey as a writing instructor for Junior High. I will also be continuing in my music journey with my band Acaciawood (and maybe be back in San Diego for a performance one day!). Unfortunately, this means I will leave the great community I have had the pleasure of meeting here at St. Martin’s. It is incredibly difficult to say goodbye to such a wonderful community. ~ Miss Hilgeman
I'm grateful for the enriching experiences and relationships I've built here. You will all remain in my prayers. ~ Mrs. Tallman

Welcome the New 5th Grade Teacher-
Kathleen Dubnicka
|
|
Hello! My name is Kathleen Dubnicka and I would like to share a little bit about myself. My husband and I have three amazing adult children, a son-in-law, and a grandson who all currently live in the states of Washington and Idaho. For the past fifteen years, I have worked in the Santee School District in many roles. As I have a Masters in Science in Special Education and dual teaching credentials, I have had the opportunity to work with students from kindergarten through eighth grade both in the general education classroom as well as in a special education classroom. My younger years as a student of Catholic education from Our Lady of Grace and Academy of Our Lady of Peace have instilled in me such a profound and treasured love for my faith and I look forward to sharing and growing in that faith as I work with you and your children.

Welcome the New 6th Grade Teacher- Katie Morland
|
|
My name is Katie Morland and I am excited to join the St. Martin's family. I am from Michigan and received a Bachelor's degree in Education from Wayne State University. I grew up going to Catholic school and can't wait to be part of this community. I have taught a variety of grades, but there is something very special about junior high students. I strive to create a positive ELA culture in my classroom so every student feels safe, supported, and has fun! When I'm not teaching, I love spending time with my husband, our 2 kids who are 11 and 8, and obsessing over our dog, Buddy. We are a hockey family, which means most of our time is spent at the rink. In addition to teaching, I also enjoy being active outside, journaling, reading, live music, traveling, and relaxing at the beach.
