Mission Statement

St. Martin of Tours Academy fosters confidence, curiosity, and independence through a climate of cooperation and trust by preserving dignity throughout the learning process, accentuating all children’s God-given gifts in a Catholic environment.

Dear SMA Community,

It's been wonderful connecting with many of you lately, whether through correspondence or during your visits to the office to pick up used uniforms or drop off items. We hope your summer vacation has been restful and enjoyable!

Here on campus, there's been a lot of activity. The drainage project at the preschool is progressing well. Currently, we're addressing the issue of water settling against the front walls due to the sloped sidewalk and grass in front of the preschool. Over the years, this has caused damage, prompting us to implement new drainage that directs water away from the preschool and towards the street. We considered directing it to our garden, but recent heavy rains in San Diego have shown that this could create issues for the condos below us, whom we greatly respect and with whom we maintain a good relationship.

Additionally, our sidewalk cleaning project has commenced with the upper sidewalks already power washed and now being prepared and patched for painting next week. It's remarkable how much wear and tear our sidewalks endure over time. Next on our list are the downstairs sidewalks and the kindergarten courtyard, scheduled for attention in the coming days.

Yesterday was a delightful day spent with 5th graders Wesley and Avery at the Corvette diner. Mrs. Dubnicka and I thoroughly enjoyed lunch, games, and laughter with them. It was not only a fantastic gala experience but also a great opportunity for Mrs. Dubnicka to familiarize herself with some of our school community members. We also discovered that Wes and Avery are talented dancers, and Wes even triumphed in winning a ball from the claw machine!

As always, thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community by taking a moment from your summer bliss to read our newsletter. We look forward to sharing more updates and events with you soon.

Summer Blessings,

Jennifer Miller

Junior High Enrichment Camp

This week, junior high students were buzzing with excitement at SMA's Math/ELA enrichment camp. They eagerly tackled units of measure, crafted ingenious "Egg Drop" contraptions from recyclables, and embarked on a thrilling measurement scavenger hunt. Strengthening their bonds, they used Venn Diagrams to connect with peers and reinforced math skills—all while seizing the opportunity of SMA's free camp to gear up for the upcoming school year.

SMA will always hold a special place in our hearts. SMA and Workshop Way laid the foundation for our academic success by teaching us to be critical thinkers, independent learners, and self starters. Not only did SMA prepare us to succeed academically, it’s also the place where we first met and established a friendship that grew over time. Read their story HERE.

Jill Marie Meyer

July 26, 1960 – July 11, 2024

Jill Meyer worked as an administrative assistant at SMA from 1992-2002. Her organization and people skills were exceptional. She loved the school families and staff. SMA was like a family to her and she had many lifelong friends from this school. Her son Josh is an alum from the Class of 2001. Jill’s sister, Linda O’Brian was Vice Principal at SMA for a number of years. They were quite a team. Jill also was instrumental in recruiting Anne Pacheco to work in the school office. Jill will be dearly missed. Read about Jill and her Celebration of Life HERE.

Please keep the Meyer, Huffaker, O'Brian and Sheppeard families in your prayers.
