Dear SMA Community,
Crews are hard at work creating a beautiful environment for our students despite the hot sun. Every day counts as we prepare for the new school year. Please keep these crews in your prayers.
This week the newly formed SMA Safety Team attended 2 days of the 4-day Diamond Safety Training sponsored by the San Diego County Office of Education. We were fortunate to be trained in the same environment in which police officers, Navy SEALs, and other agencies train. We took part in scenarios that included live actors, blank rounds, and fake blood. Our mission was to keep students, staff, and ourselves safe while doing our best to stop bleeding among the injured. Our tools included a CAT tourniquet, packing gauze, and bandages. Our team, consisting of myself, Mrs. Hickman, Mrs. Tallman, and Ms. Johnson, successfully saved several injured actors who had lost a limb or suffered deep wounds.
On a different note, Sacramental Preparation registration begins on August 7. The Sacramental Preparation for Reconciliation and First Holy Communion is a shared experience with parents attending sessions with their child. We hope to see many of our students receive these sacraments this school year. You will find more information at the bottom of this newsletter.
Below, you can also find information about the after school classes we will be offering. Fall sports will begin in September, including Cross County. Cross Country is open for all grades and Boy's Flag Football and Girls Volleyball are open for students in grades 5-8. Practice dates will be determined in late August.
Summer Blessings,
Jennifer Miller
