Dear SMA Community,
If you joined us for the 9 am Academy and Faith Formation-Sponsored Mass, you know how special it was! The choir was spectacular and the homily was a 10 out of 10. Auxiliary Bishop Pham invited the children to sit with him on the altar steps where he told them a story about kindness and empathy. Our next Academy-Sponsored Mass is 3/17 at 9 am. Please join us!
This week was full of fun activities including celebrating the 100th day of school, Valentine's Day, and Ash Wednesday school Mass. We also counted all the cans from the "SOUPer Bowl". The 49ers were the champions with 73 cans and Kansas City Chiefs with 63 cans of food. Thank you to all who brought in a donation for our food pantry.
During this season of Lent, which prepares us for Jesus' Resurrection, it is tradition that everyone ages 14 and up abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all the Fridays during Lent. This is a small sacrifice we make for the huge sacrifice Jesus made for us. We also try to connect more with God in prayer, and offer alms or good deeds (ex. help parents with laundry, sweeping, setting the table, etc.). If you would like more information about Lent and how your family can celebrate together, I highly suggest signing up for either of the following free programs: Holy Heroes Lenten Adventure and/or Best Lent Ever.
We are just over a month away from our accreditation visit. On Tuesday, the associate superintendents of the Diocese of San Diego will be conducting a pre-visit and the official team will make their visit March 26-28. If you are interested in being part of the hospitality team for our visitors, please email me for more information.
Lenten Blessings,
Jennifer Miller, Principal

Ash Wednesday - Lent Begins!

|
The student-led Ash Wednesday Mass signaled the beginning of the 6 week Lenten season. The ashes received are a reminder that we are from dust and to dust we shall return. The cross of ashes on our forehead represents mortality and penance. Save the date for SMA's Lenten Supper on March 1st at 5 pm followed by Stations of the Cross led by students in the church.

Wreaths Across America was an event that Girl Scout troop 5199 participated in at Greenwood Memorial Park. The girls helped lay wreaths on Veterans graves, reading their names out loud and thanking them for their service to our country. Cookie time is here! Pictured is their cookie booth at Vons.
