Dear SMA Community,
It is hard to believe the school year is coming to an end. Our 8th graders have shared their SLE Presentations, which is their culminating project showcasing overall growth throughout their K-8 education. Practices have begun for graduation Mass, planning for back to school events are in full swing, yearbooks are arriving, and we are still trying to figure out how to put into words our sincerest gratitude for Fr. Elmer as he moves on to Good Shepherd Parish July 1st and Mrs. Anne Pacheco as she approaches retirement in July. We also say goodbye to Mrs. Jimenez and wish her well in her next chapter of life. As you read further below, you will meet our newest addition to SMA: Ms. Caitlin Jones, joining us all the way from Washington, DC! Ms. Jones is a seasoned 4th-grade teacher and will be coaching the SMA Cross Country team. We look forward to welcoming her!
Luckily, I had Principal For the Day Miss Emma M. help me get a lot of work done during this busy week. She was kind enough to let the whole school wear their favorite sports shirt and have extra recess too! Thank you, Emma!
We are so excited to present a special Volunteer Appreciation program on Wednesday morning after drop-off in the Parish Hall. RSVP here, by 5/25 please, so we may get an accurate headcount. The program will commence at 8:15 am and will include portions of the Grandparents' Day show as well as performances from our school music program, Villa Musica.
All are welcome to the last school Mass on Thursday 5/30 at 8:30 am. The Class of 2024 will enjoy a beautiful brunch following Mass hosted by the 7th-grade parents, which is a tradition here at SMA. You are all invited to attend the Graduation Mass on Friday, June 7th at 3 pm to celebrate the Class of 2024.
This Memorial Day weekend, my heartfelt thanks and prayers go out to all of our military families (past and present). As a former military wife, I know the feeling of helplessness and concern when saying "goodbye" to a loved one, not knowing where their path may lead and what harm might come, either physically or emotionally. Thank you, veterans and active duty members, for your service and response to God's call to protect our country despite knowing the costs.
In Peace,
Jennifer Miller, Principal
