Dear SMA Community,
We enjoyed celebrating the Halloween season here at SMA. Teachers and parents used their gifts and talents to create fun learning experiences in class, such as a candy corn science lab and themed cross-curricular station rotations. Many students dressed as their favorite saint on All Saints' Day, which made Mass extra special. On Nov. 2nd we celebrated Dia De Los Muertos with an altar full of pictures staff and students brought in to remember loved ones .
Today, students in grades K-5 will be taking home a Conference Preparation Worksheet. Please complete and return it to the classroom teacher prior to 11/15. This worksheet will help teachers prepare even better for conferences on November 16-18.
Our next school Mass is Wed. Nov. 9th at 10 am, prepared by the 4th grade class. Dress uniform is required. This means pants for boys and white polo shirts/blouses for boys and girls. Next Friday, 11/11 the school is closed for Veteran's Day. We would like to honor our Veterans next week and will be asking students to bring in a picture of someone in their family who has served in the military. Thank you to all our SMA community members who have served in the military!

Please invite your friends and acquaintances to our first Open House during the school day. There are two opportunities to visit the school while students are in session. As a reminder, preschool students and returning students/siblings have first priority for enrollment. Re-registration will begin in January for those families.
Thank you,
Jennifer Miller, Principal

Cold and flu season is upon us. Health officials are warning there may be high levels of influenza compared to the past two years, when COVID-19 precautions helped keep flu infections low. As a reminder, please do not send your child to school if they are feeling sick or experiencing symptoms of a virus. Keeping your sick child home will be a great benefit for the health and wellness of our students and staff. Read letter from the principal here.

FLU
The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness. Some people, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions, are at high risk of serious flu complications. Symptoms of influenza can vary, but generally include a high fever, headache, chills, body aches, sore throat, and cough. Prevention tips.
FEVER:
If a child's temperature is 100.5 or higher, keep him or her home. The child should be fever-free for 24 hours (without) medicine before returning to school.
RASHES
For undetermined rashes please have your child cleared by a physician before returning to school.
|
|
SORE THROAT
A sore throat could mean strep throat even if there is no fever. Other symptoms of strep are headache and upset stomach. A child needs a special test to determine if it is strep throat and can return to school 24 hours after antibiotic treatments begin.
CONJUNCTIVITIS
A child who has bacterial conjunctivitis (pink-eye) will have red, bloodshot eyes with yellow discharge. It's treated with antibiotic eye drop ointment, and the child can go back to school 24 hours after the medication is initiated.
COMMON COLD
Healthcare professionals recommend that sick children stay home until they're well enough to go back to school. This is typically about 24 hours after symptoms begin to improve. A child with deep or uncontrollable coughing belongs at home even without a fever.
|
|
UPPER RESPIRATORY ILLNESS
A child with bronchitis or influenza usually has a fever. Children with a bad cough need to stay home and maybe see a doctor. The cough could be due to a severe cold, bronchitis, flu or even pneumonia. When the cough is better, the child can go back to school.
GASTROINTESTINAL ILLNESS
A child with diarrhea who must use the toilet repeatedly should stay home until the condition improves. A child who is vomiting should also skip school until he or she is feeling better.
