SMA Prep Weekly
Middle School Campus
Dear Families,
Our SMA Prep cadets were acknowledged this week for their support in last year's Eternal Reef dedication ceremony. This group of students committed themselves to learn about the 65 submarines and provide valuable information about the history and stories of the officers and crew who served aboard. We are proud of their dedication in preparing for this event and participation despite the threatening weather that day. Thank you to our families who are the foundation for building this character of commitment and respect despite difficult circumstances. Hooah!

We are also grateful to our PTCC and parent volunteers for another excellent book fair! Seeing all of your smiling faces on campus this week was another reminder of the positive connections and support we have throughout our school community.

~ Becky Morris, Assistant Head of School

Eternal Patrol Reef Acknowledgement

SMA Prep cadets who supported last year’s Eternal Patrol Reef Dedication Ceremony were presented with a commemorative coin and model reef plaque as a thank you on Wednesday. Last year’s ceremony in Sarasota honored more than 4,000 submariners lost since 1900 on 65 submarines. We are proud of our cadets’ commitment in honoring and remembering our nation’s fallen seamen.

Interact Club: Sensory-Bottles Project

This past week, on April 8, Interact Club made sensory bottles for children with SPD also known as Sensory Processing Disorder. SPD is a disorder that causes children and adults to be over-reactive or under-reactive to certain senses. We have seven senses:sight, smell, taste, touch, hearing, vestibular, and proprioception. People with SPD’s brain over-reacts to some senses, but barely reacts to others. To help Interact made sensory bottles that are calming to not only people with SPD, but others as well. These bottles are going to be picked up and taken to children with SPD in the Sarasota area.
