SMA Prep Weekly
Middle School Campus
Dear Families,

It was an exciting week for me as I attended the Future of Education Technology Conference with a highly enthusiastic team of educators from SMA! In case you don't know, #FETC is one of the largest ed tech conferences in the United States and provides innovative ideas for learning and technology solutions to support a range of interests and needs. A highlight for me was getting to hear keynote speaker, Sal Khan, founder of Khan Academy talk about his vision for active, mastery-based learning.
Your child is always welcome to use Khan Academy, a free program, to improve skills in math and now many other content areas as well. Have them log in through our Clever portal using their ourSMA account for quick access.

Monday, 2/4, is our College Spirit Day where cadets and faculty can wear their favorite college shirt (go Westminster Blue Jays !) to school.

The Valentines Dance is this Friday, 2/8, from 4:30 - 6:30 pm. Don't forget to purchase your tickets during lunch this week (see details below). THANK YOU to our PTCC for their dedication and hard work in making this event possible!

Time is "running" out to register for the Raiders Rise & Run 5K on February 16th. Be sure to sign up today and show your support for this outstanding program.

Looking forward to another great week with my SMA family!

~ Major Becky Morris, Assistant Head of School
Here's what is happening at the Prep:
Learning in Action: Hydroponics

In Agriscience, cadets set up a new hydroponic system in the garden. Called a "Foody" it is a vertical hydroponic system for smaller plants such as lettuces and herbs.

On another front, the University of Florida Extension Service is coming February 20 with free seedlings for the spring raised bed garden, so stop by weekly to see the progress!
