SMA Prep Weekly
Middle School Campus
Dear Families,
Thank you to everyone who shared our enrollment information event last week. We currently have a waiting list for all three grade levels! We encourage anyone interested to still apply for next year and get added to the list. We often find that changes over the summer can open up seats, thus providing opportunities to offer those slots to families on the waiting list. This is done in the order we receive the applications, so please do not delay if you or someone you know is interested.
Check out the Prep Drum Line performance at the Pre-Orientation for new cadets and their families this past week! Be sure to look over the information below on SMA-MAJ Finley's Drum Line Camp to perform at the 8th-grade promotion.
Our year is winding down with only three more weeks of school to go. Please continue to monitor our parent/community calendar for upcoming activities. Here are some of the key events over the next few weeks:

  • May 6-10 - Teacher Appreciation Week
  • May 6-20 - State Assessments
  • May 7 - Golf Championship
  • May 8-10 Mothers' Day Plant Sale (during lunch)
  • May 9 - SMA Board of Directors Meeting

Here's what is happening at the Prep:
LEARNING IN ACTION: Harvesting Winter Crops

Representatives from the University of Florida Extension Service visited our campus this week, delivering a lesson on nutrition to the Agriscience classes. The cadets have been busy harvesting their winter crops. This is the first time Prep has successfully grown cucumbers!

We will hold a Mother's Day Plant sale next week-May 8th -10th at both lunches. Gifts and flowers will be available from 50 cents to $4. Remember MOM!

After completing their DNA molecule project, students in SMA-MAJ Munson’s class applied what they learned in a fun edible lab by completing the nucleotides from the mystery bag and then building a complete DNA molecule with mutations.
LEARNING IN ACTION: Holding Our Breath

Dr. Todd Brown's 8th-grade Civics classes are participating in a non-controversial social media campaign in hopes of attracting Disney's attention. Through the understanding of digital literacy and responsibility, the cadets are learning how the use of digital media can create a social movement resulting from exponential growth. In the last 36 hours, SMA Prep cadets in their "Holding Our Breath" campaign has garnered the attention of celebrities from the Science Channel, the Discovery Channel, and most importantly the Disney Channel.

Join the movement!   #104DaysofGravityFalls

Thank you to our PTCC parent volunteers and faculty for creating this special memory for our 8th grade students! Only a few more weeks until we wrap up the year and then they’re off to high school!
8th Grade Dance Picture Orders

There is still time to order professional pictures from the 8th-grade semi-formal dance. Check out Southern Exposures Photography's event galleries to find your picture!

The Prep golf team defeated SSAS on Tuesday at the Meadows Country Club. The final score was 210 to 216. Congrats to Justin with the low score of 38 for the Eagles. The team will participate in the FSCL Championship on May 7th at the Links at Greenfield Plantation.
