SMA Prep Weekly
Middle School Campus
Dear Families,

It's that time of year again when we set the clocks back an hour and hopefully find a way to use our "extra" hour in preparation for the busy season ahead. Next weekend is an especially important time for SMA as we honor our nations' veterans on November 11th by marching in the downtown Sarasota Veterans Day Parade. We hope you will join us in supporting this SMA tradition!

Also, there are less than three weeks left to sponsor a wreath in order to meet our goal of having a wreath to lay at each of the 13,500 veterans' graves. PLEASE take a moment to sponsor a wreath (see below) and spread the word about this important cause!

Thank you for supporting SMA and remembering our nation's veterans!

~ MAJ Becky Morris, Asst. Head of School
Here's what is happening at the Prep:
Veterans Day Parade
Sunday, November 11th
The Veterans Day Parade is on a Sunday this year. SMA Prep cadets and their families are encouraged to join us for this wonderful opportunity to honor our nation's veterans on November 11th.

We will be meeting at the high school campus (801 N. Orange Ave.). Parking will not be available on campus, therefore, we recommend that you arrive no later than 8:30 AM. After a formation, we will depart for the staging area at 9:15 AM. The parade begins at 10:00 AM down Main Street in downtown Sarasota. We estimate that we will return to the high school by 10:50 AM. It is important that parents return to the high school no later than 11 AM to pick up their child.

Prep dress uniforms are expected for all cadets, faculty, and staff. Please remember, this is  not a school day  so buses and lunches are not provided.
WATER DONATIONS NEEDED

In an effort to keep everyone hydrated, we kindly ask for bottled water donations for the parade. Please drop off water at the office by Nov. 7th so that we have time to transport to the high school.

Learning in Action: SMA Prep News Team

Here at SMA Prep, we have a dedicated news team who works hard on a daily basis to put out announcements and news for our school! We have two teams of cadets who rotate weekly; it's a big commitment though, and cadets put in an hour each morning before school in order to have the news run smoothly. A huge thank you to our news crew for being dedicated, hard-working, and team players here at the Prep!

The following pictures show our script writers, our broadcast technicians, and our broadcasters who are live across the globe!

Here's a link to PrepWorldNews on YouTube where you can subscribe, watch us, and enjoy! Thank you for your support!
Learning in Action: Latin American Culture

Prep teachers and students were ready for some cultural fun in Spanish class last week by using dough to create calavera magnets, iconic symbols of the Latin American culture, El Día de Muertos. #ourSMA #IBMYP
Wreaths Across America

Please join Sarasota Military Academy in honoring our nations resting veterans, by sponsoring a wreath for the National Cemetery. By doing this, you will help us to honor our veterans and support SMA at the same time. Five dollars from every wreath comes back to SMA to help support cadet activities.

Cadets will have the opportunity to earn a shirt to wear on Fridays during the months of November and December. They can also enter our "Thank a Veteran" coloring contest by submitting the coloring page enclosed in the packet they received. Please turn in all wreath forms and coloring contest to the main office. Thank you for your support!
