The Sarasota Manatee Bicycle Club strives to be the premier cycling club in the Sarasota region. We will foster a vibrant and inclusive environment where members of all ages and abilities can enjoy the sport, build friendships, increase their cycling knowledge and skills, and be great stewards within our community.

A Message from SMBC President Don Stuart

Summer is here—come celebrate and remember with us.

SMBC’s summer calendar is full of opportunities to ride together, connect, and take part in meaningful commemorative and social events.

Ride of Silence: This special event gives us a chance to honor victims, bear witness, and raise awareness. The 7-mile silent loop through downtown Sarasota is an inspirational experience. We hope you’ll join us on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 6:45 PM in the southwest parking lot of Robarts Arena for this police-escorted ride.

The ride and ceremony help us:

  • Honor those who have been injured or lost their lives in bicycle crashes.
  • Remind our community that bicyclists belong on our public roads.
  • Encourage all of us to share the road with care and respect.

Please stay and join us for pizza afterward—we’d love to spend more time together.

Memorial Day: On Monday, May 25th, we’ll come together for a special club event to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Please join us for a motivating day of cycling, remembrance, and community as we ride to Sarasota National Cemetery.

250th USA Anniversary Ride We look forward to sharing more details in July. Did you know it’s called the United States Semiquincentennial?

Celebrate our 50th CycleFest

The Sarasota Manatee Bicycle Club is proud to announce that its 50th CycleFest will be held on Sunday, November 15, at Main Street Lakewood Ranch. This iconic event will feature 20, 35, and 65 mile rides along some of the most scenic trails and roads in Sarasota and Manatee counties.

CycleFest offers all the things riders enjoy—fun, time with both old and new friends, and a great chance to relax and be active. It also supports charitable and advocacy partnerships across the local biking community.

There will be a light breakfast, fully-stocked rest stops, and a boxed lunch following the ride. Additionally, sag wagon support will be provided. We're giving a commemorative ride cap to celebrate our 50th CycleFest to every registrant.

Come and enjoy the fun as a volunteer, a rider, or both. Remember, life’s a journey – enjoy the ride. See you there!

CycleFest relies on the generosity of its sponsors who will receive recognition before, during, and after the event. Our committee is contacting past sponsors to update them on CF2026 and ask for their support again this year. Many of you likely know potential sponsors, including businesses you frequent and the health, legal, or accounting professionals you work with. Please contact them on behalf of our club and encourage them to become sponsors. Chris King sent an email with details on 5/13/26.

Condolences to the
REAL Bikes Family

There will be a memorial gathering at Maxine Barritt Park on Tuesday, May 19th at 10 am to celebrate the life of Cyndee Reynolds. The park is located on Venice island next to Sharkey’s by the Pier. Please come celebrate Cyndee’s time on earth with her family and friends. We will have a small service and lunch will be served after.

Cyndee’s one request was that people wear colorful casual clothes as was Cyndee’s style.

2nd Annual Bakery Ride!

On April 11, SMBC held its second annual bakery ride. Susan, Sam, and Charlie led 42 riders along the scenic North Port Connector into North Port, where they stopped at European Bakery K&K to enjoy pastries and club camaraderie.

Look at all the SMBC club jerseys!

The heat is back!

Please take extra care on our rides, especially in the heat. Remember to:

  • Drink water often; don’t wait until you feel thirsty.
  • Wear breathable clothing to help your body stay cool.
  • Take breaks in the shade as needed.
  • Watch for signs of heat exhaustion in yourself and others.
  • Bring extra water if possible, and consider electrolytes to help prevent heat exhaustion.

Ride safely and enjoy!
