The partner section of the new interactive website which is set to launch in June, is active! Local tourism and hospitality members may now access the site to register as a partner. Then, partners can immediately update and enhance their listings, upload pictures, and add deals and events. The interactive and mobile-enabled site will provide a powerful new destination marketing tool for St. Mary's County.

"The Maryland Harvest" is a documentary about Maryland farms and farmers and the chefs who love them. The production provides a gastronomic tour of farms throughout the state with talented chefs such as Charleston's Cindy Wolf, Spike Gjerde of Woodberry Kitchen, David McCallum of the Tilghman Island Inn and Rob Plant of Blue Wind Gourmet. "The Maryland Harvest" will air on Maryland Public Television on Tuesday, April 17 at 9 pm."

kiosksSouthern Maryland is First to Receive Star Spangled Banner Kiosks and Waysides 

 

The National Park Service trail commemorating the War of 1812 comes to Southern Maryland with outdoor kiosks planned for the Welcome Center at Charlotte Hall and Tudor Hall in Leonardtown.   Wayside interpretive markers will be installed at the Leonardtown Wharf, Sotterley Plantation, the Patuxent Naval Air Museum and Point Lookout State Parkhttp://www.nps.gov/stsp/index.htm

POL Winery finished-up its spring bottling mid March and has now added its first dry ros� to its offerings. While Wicomico Ros� is on its way in, gold medal Autumn Frost is out!  The last bottles left the winery with one lucky consumer several days ago.  Recently installed state tourism signs now make the winery easy to find!  http://portofleonardtownwinery.com/

war1812War of 1812 Brings Travel Writers to Area 
 
The Maryland Office of Tourism is hosting a series of tours for writers from throughout the nation and beyond to experience Maryland's War of 1812 offerings. Sotterley Plantation is included. The second of three tours took place on March 30. Writers from the Philadelphia Sun, About.com, the Chicago Tribune and the Toronto Star participated. New research conducted by Sotterley's education director Jeanne Pirtle on the role of slaves at Sotterley during the war was presented to the group and will be incorporated into visitor programs starting this summer.

Rebecca Lira of St. Mary's CountyTourism joined forces with Southern Maryland colleagues at the recent Pennsylvania Bus Association Marketplace in Harrisburg, and then headed down to TurfValley the Maryland Motorcoach Association Marketplace. Hundreds of tour operators and group leaders attend the annual marketplaces for information as they plan future bus trips. Ms. Lira notes, " More groups seem to be looking for local travel options, which is great for Southern Maryland and for St. Mary's County!"

The Home Grown Farm Market Spring Season has started! This will be the first full season for the market which will be open on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Home Grown Farm Market is a producer only market which showcases the best and freshest St. Mary's has to offer. located at 21078 Three Notch Road, Lexington Park. http://homegrownfarmmarket.webs.com.

Opening in December 2011 to great reviews, St. Mary's first LEED certified hotel is going strong. The official grand opening of Home2 Suites by Hilton is set for April 26 from 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. Soon to follow, will be a new Comfort Inn. This 55-room property will be the 11th brand hotel along St. Mary's "Hotel Corridor" in the Lexington Park area

The Maryland Office of Tourism Web site, VisitMaryland.org accepts event postings directly from venues, event organizers and destinations through an on-line entry system at www.calendar.visitmaryland.org. Event representatives can also purchase ads on the site as well as enhance their calendar listings with upgrades, such as images and preferred placement.
