Greetings!

Our summer has been packed! We are excited to announce the Economic Development Grant is open and has new guidelines. We've included informational videos and examples on the grant's page, or feel free to reach out with questions.

We've also expanded our Circle for Good program, a peer network group for nonprofit leaders, to Mankato, closed new loans — and set a date for our entrepreneurial partner event, BridgED: Oct. 6!

Our work could not be possible without the drive of partners and leaders across our region. We hope these opportunities aid you in your tireless work!

Vice President of Entrepreneurship

Circle for Good opens in Mankato

Facilitated by SMIF, with support from the Mankato Area Foundation, Circle for Good provides a confidential, collaborative space where leaders can connect, share challenges and gain practical guidance to move their missions forward.

The program brings together a small, diverse group of nonprofit leaders for regular, in-person sessions focused on topics like organizational planning, fundraising, leadership and more — while also allowing space for real-time “hot topics.” Participation is free (valued at $1,200), with a commitment of time, engagement and a desire to grow both professionally and organizationally.

Please contact Peggy Paul, SMIF entrepreneurship director, at peggyp@smifoundation.org or 507-214-7010 for more information.

Save the date: BridgEd

Oct. 6 | Wells, MN

BridgED brings together leaders and practitioners to share real-world successes, explore regional trends and tackle common challenges through interactive discussions, workshops and peer learning.

Highlights include case studies, roundtable conversations, a regional economic outlook and best-practices — all designed to spark new ideas and strengthen partnerships.

Wrap up the day with a networking reception and continue building the relationships that power economic growth across our region.

Loan client spotlight: Tone Music in Owatonna

Mara Schack, SMIF loan client and owner of Tone Music in Owatonna, shared her experience working with SMIF and what it means to bring music to all ages and abilities in the community.

"Music is in my bones, and I've always thought about having my own music studio," Mara shared. "It’s still a business, but at the same time I’m trying to provide music to all ages, levels and abilities in the community. I'm a firm believer that you can learn at any age.

"It has been really fun to be part of an organization that is working kind of like I am: community driven and wanting to help others. I feel like SMIF's values align with mine in a lot of ways, so it it feels like a good partnership."
