President's Perspective

Warren B. Chin, MD

As we enter the new year, I would like to thank Dr. James O’Dorisio and the SMLMA Board of Directors for their leadership in 2023, and the executive team of SMLMA for their hard work and dedication in serving our regional medical community.

With all the excitement of the past five+ years, I for one, was grateful for a quiet 2023! I am honored to serve as your 2024 president and will endeavor to continue the fine example of leadership that my predecessors and the SMLMA team have laid before me.

The role that SMLMA plays in representing and empowering physicians is crucial in supporting physicians in the business and practice of medicine. Our membership allows us to focus on patient service, knowing that this fine organization is monitoring issues and legislation that may affect us and taking action on our behalf.

SMLMA’s rapid and extensive response in bringing physicians together to serve the public during the COVID pandemic was commendable, and is an example of how the leadership of SMLMA can quickly bring our community together. As you may also know, the political efforts of SMLMA and the California Medical Association were key in averting the proposed cuts in the Medicare fee schedule in 2023. I have the utmost confidence that we will continue to meet the needs of the medical community in 2024, whatever they may be.

Finally, I would like to thank our members for their support and advocacy. While it is understandable that the demands of our profession may seem overwhelming at times, I urge everyone to take the time to get further involved with SMLMA and to learn more about the benefits and partnerships that membership provides for you. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to
