News from Mrs. Sims
Parents are the primary educators of their children, and as parents, we often need the support of our community to do our job well. One such movement that may interest some of you is called Wait Until 8th. Technology is changing the lives of our children, and this group is saying no to getting their children Smartphones until at least the age of 14. Can you just imagine how much strength that takes in today's world?
Research tells us that children are spending 3 to 7 hours a day on their devices. Smartphones are known to change the focus of being a child. They are distracting, addictive, and interfere with relationships.  They put children at risk for anxiety and depression, as well as cyber bullying. They expose children to adult content that they just aren't ready for. Of course, technology can be a wonderful tool for learning and staying in contact. But for children, unmonitored technology can be dangerous.
If you want to learn more about Wait Until 8th, please go to www.waituntil8th.org . Another great resource for parents and the issues with social media is www.commonsensemedia.org/social-media#
