Important Information
Preparing for Year End

Library Books
Next week Mrs. Justice will send notifications home for all library books that have not been returned.  All books must be returned or paid for by Wednesday, May 25, otherwise, your child will be unable to participate in field day.

Lunch Accounts
All lunch accounts must be paid in full and have a positive or zero balance at the end of the year.  When making deposits to your child's lunch account, please keep in mind that lunches will be served until Wednesday, May 25.  
  • All 8th grade students must be paid up by Tuesday, May 17 or they will not be allowed to participate in Graduation Activities on May 18.
  • All other grades must be paid by Wednesday, May 25 or the student will not be permitted to participate in Field Day on May 26.
Balances in an 8th grade student's account will automatically be transferred to a younger sibling's account.  Balances will roll over from year to year, as well.
School Supplies 2016-2017

We are pleased to offer you the option to purchase your pre-packaged school supplies this spring for the 2016-17 school year.

Pre-packaged supplies will be in to your child's classroom on Student Orientation Day, Sunday, August 14.
Used Uniform Collection
Next Week - May 16-20

The PTO will be collecting gently used uniforms for resale next week. Bins will be placed outside the school office. We ask that the clothes be freshly laundered and have no obvious stains, holes, or fading. There will be a Used Uniform Sale this summer. Check the bulletin and PTO Facebook page for dates to be announced.

Quick Recall - Register NOW
Deadline - Friday, May 20

Sign-ups are underway until  Friday, May 20  for any student  currently in 5th-7th grade that is interested in playing Quick Recall in the fall. Matches will be on Tuesdays. Please click here  to access the necessary form and read the details.
Yearbook Party

On Friday, May 20 the classes will have yearbook signing parties. If you have not ordered a yearbook for your child(ren) you may still order one.  We have a limited number of yearbooks still available, but, you must act quickly. You may click here to place an order. If you are not sure if you ordered a yearbook previously, click here for the most up-to-date list of families that have placed orders. Autograph pages will be provided for any student that does not have a yearbook.

Please remember that dogs should not be out of the cars during afternoon carpool. Thank you!

News from Mrs. Sims
"Lord, we hear you calling us to face new beginnings, to leave the old behind, to discover new and deeper parts of our total being.  Let us know the blessing of your presence in these transitions."

            May brings the thought of transitions to our school. The 8th graders will soon transition to high school, others will move on to the next grade level, we all will experience the ease of the summer months, and we will move on to the next challenge in our lives. It is an exciting time, but it also can leave us feeling anxious or sad.
            As we count down the days until summer vacation, let's not forget all of the wonderful things that are still going on. Our 2nd and 6th graders planned and conducted a beautiful May Crowning Ceremony on Tuesday in loving tribute to Mary. The 4th graders experienced Pioneer Day, which is the exciting culminating event that celebrates their study of Kentucky history. A big thanks goes out to all of the parent volunteers who helped us with all of these activities. We couldn't do it without you! 
            Optional PTS conferences will be held on May 31st from 8:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. If you wish to meet with your child's teacher one last time before the summer break, we ask that you please contact her to make an appointment.  We want to be sure that we are available to discuss your concerns or answer your questions.

         SMM Field Day Thursday,  May 26th             
Please be here for a day of FUN!!

Mark your calendars for a fun filled field day to wrap up our school year. This is not a day for winners and ribbons but one for activities that put smiles on EVERYONE'S faces. As well as traditional games, there will be dancin' DJ, two inflatable's, face painting, bubbles, streetball, tennis and a craft to do in the art room.
Each child is asked to bring a bagged lunch that day as the cafeteria will not be open.  Refreshments will be sold by the 7th grade class during the activities, proceeds to benefit their 8th grade trip: popcorn, water and snow cones. (All items are $1.00 - $2.00) Please put students money in a plastic Ziploc bag with their name on it. Do not send large bills!

In order to keep classes in the appropriate areas and to help monitor this day we ask for your assistance in following the dress code for field day fun.  Sneakers are a MUST, appropriate length athletic shorts, a nd tee shirts according to class colors. Yes, the shirts may have appropriate print or lettering on them. Students may wear a hat that day.

3:  Blue -royal or navy
4.  Grey
5:  Black or Tie dye
6:  White
7th grade station leaders: 
front activities (orange),    back activities (green)
7th grade guides: either red  or purple (depending on their class)
All proceeds from the concession stand go to the 8th grade trip pool. Each 7th grade student is asked to donate $5.00 towards the items sold that day. Please turn this into the concession stand group in homeroom by Wednesday, May 18th.

SMM Student Highlights
A nnie Thompson (8S) and Allie Cornett (8S) competed in Dance Worlds Competition in Orlando on April 27-28. They dance for The Vision Dance Center, and their Junior Lyrical dance called "Yellow Brick Road" was one of only 6 routines in the US that were given bids to compete in this international competition. They placed  second in the competition. We are very proud of their hard work and dedication!
