Please submit all school forms to your student's homeroom teachers as soon as possible.
Afternoon Pick-Up at the School Office

Due to having 8 school busses at the front of the school each afternoon, we ask that parents visiting the front office anytime after 2:00 pm, please park at the east end of the parking lot (opposite end from the gym.)  Once the busses are parked, they will not be moved to allow for cars to be let out. 
We have many great opportunities for learning and fun this fall with a variety of After School Enrichment Opportunities.

Boot Camp

The purpose of the boot camp is to determine aptitude and interest in the SMM children's hand bell choir. Students who love music and want to experieince ringing the bells andl earning how to make the many different sounds produced by handbells should attend. Kentucky Youth  Assembly

The dates for 6th-8th grade KYA this year is Sunday, November 6 - Tuesday, November 8.

The first meeting of the year for both students and parents will be on Monday, August 25 in the hospitality room from 5:15 - 5:40 pm.
Opening: Cafeteria Worker/Server

Description: St. Margaret Mary School seeks enthusiastic employee to work in the school cafeteria.  The employee will assist in the lunch preparation, serving, and clean up for large JK-8 school.  Hours will be 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. five days a week.

Qualifications:  Candidates who work well in a team setting and are fond of children are a must.

After winning county, Jack Graves represented St. Margaret Mary in the 11 year old category for this year's 4H State Communications Day competition at the University of Kentucky. Speeches were presented on July 9th, and Jack took home the 1st place blue ribbon!

RCIA Adapted for Children

The process of Christian Initiation is also available to children who may have for some reason or circumstance not yet been baptized or perhaps not received the other sacraments of Eucharist, Reconciliation, and Confirmation.  

The RCIA process adapted for children is also being offered this coming year.  It is an opportunity for those children beyond the second grade to prepare with their parents and other children and their parents for reception of the sacraments and welcome into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil.

We will be meeting on Sunday mornings from 11:30-12:30, gathering first in the cafeteria, beginning August 28.

James: Pearls for Wise Living

James is one of the most practical books of the Bible. Its teachings speak loudly to those who feel torn between the competing demands of this world and their faith.

This study offers "pearls for wise living" by applying the wisdom of James to our current day. For anyone who has struggled to live a truly Christian life, James offers a wealth of practical solutions for handling and even sanctifying everyday circumstances.

Join us for James: Pearls for Wise Living in the Hospitality Room beginning September 8th, at 9:00 a.m. and continuing every Thursday for 11 weeks. Materials for the study are $24 and you can register in the Parish Office.  If you need more information, please phone Lou Steier at 640-1583 .

News from Mrs. Sims

Welcome to the 2016-17 school year!  There were many smiles and just a few tears as we began school on Tuesday, but we are all ready to begin this journey once again.  We are excited about our JK class, the new science curriculum, the addition of Chromebooks, and implementing a Christian Leaders program.  Our prayers are for a safe and happy school year for all.

I would like to introduce our new staff members.  Please welcome the following people to our school family.  The new teachers are: JK Ashley Wheatley, K Allie Wibbels, 2nd  Jennifer Hawkins, and 4th  Emily Mills.  The new assistants are: JK Melissa Wheatley, K Patricia Caudill,  3rd  Audra Rich, 5th  Carrie Woodruff and 6th  Susan Andriot.  We're also happy to have Amy Hammer in the school office.

Our school theme this year is, "We Are Leaders for Christ". During the first trimester we will focus on the character trait of Responsibility. The faculty and staff look forward to another year of working with you and your children.  The upcoming year is full of promise and possibility.  We are SMM proud!

Encore Auditions

Encore auditions for 7th & 8th grade boys and girls are Monday at 7:15 am, August 22, in the music room.  The audition song, a recording of the accompaniment for the song, and the permission slip have been emailed to the Jr. High parents. Questions?  Contact Brenda Harrison at
Supernova Auditions
In grades 3 - 6, there is an auditioned choir (Supernova) that meets at 7:15am on Tuesdays mornings.  A Supernova is a stellar happening with great energy}. Students are chosen based on their singing audition with Mrs. Harrison. Approximately 40 students are chosen to be part of this special group. Students choose one of three mornings to come to school for their audition. 
* Detailed information has been emailed home to all 3rd - 6th grade families.
* Signed permission forms and fees are due to Mrs. Harrison before auditions the week of August 22.

All auditions are at 7:15 am in the music room.
The PTO Open House meeting will take place in the church at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 25th.  Some of our teachers will also hold meetings prior to that in order for our parents to get more detailed information and have the ability to visit multiple classrooms. Please remember that this is a parent only event. 
JK and K  Parents will meet in these homerooms at 5:45 and then dismiss to the church at 6:20.
1st Grade  Parents will meet in the homerooms after the PTO meeting.
2nd grade - Parents will meet in the homerooms after the PTO meeting.
3rd grade Parents will meet in these homerooms at 5:45 and then dismiss to the church at 6:20.
4th grade Parents will all meet in 4R after the PTO meeting.
5th grade Parents will meet in the Library KIVA after the PTO meeting.
6th grade  Parents will all meet in the Hospitality Room after the PTO meeting.
Jr High 7th grade parents will start in Mrs. Stiff's room at 5:45.
               8th grade parents will start in Mrs. Colley's room at 5:45.  Everyone will dismiss to the gym at 6:20

Kroger Cards

Enrolling your Kroger Plus Card allows our school to earn money every time you shop or fill your gas tank.
Last year we earned over $18,000 for our school with less than 40% of our families enrolled.

Please take the time to re-enroll (or enroll for the first time). All accounts will automatically be cleared  from Community Rewards after August 30. You must go into your account and add SMM again between now and August 31.To do this:
  •  Go to and log in or create an account. If you are creating an account for the first time, you need your Kroger Plus Card number. (this is the card you scan at the register to get the discount).
  • Once you are in your account, click on Community: and then Community Rewards. When you are prompted to add a school our school code is 10085.
It is that easy! Once again we will be giving each child 5 free dress passes with each family enrolled. You will again need to send Lindsey Wilson a screen shot of your account with SMM listed. She CANNOT accept a link to your account. (this requires her to have your password.) You can send the screen shot to or text it to me at 502-303-4073. (Be sure your family name is visible so I know who to credit). Dress passes will be going out starting the first week of September. The passes can only be used on Fridays.

Thank you to everyone who has signed up to participate in Kroger Community Rewards, we have 45% of our student population enrolled! The PTO will have a sign up table at the upcoming Open House on Thursday August 25th from 6-6:30 outside of church.

Pick up your free dress passes if you have already enrolled or sign up then. Don't forget each child receives 5 free dress for each family that enrolls. The deadline is August 31st, let's get 100%!

New!  Improved and ONLINE!

We are excited to announce that the entire calendar of school activities is available on Sycamore. You have the ability to view all of the dates for after school enrichment classes, conference days, Family Nights, etc. Since this is so easily accessible, we will no longer provide a listing of calendar items in the newsletter.

The Archdiocese of Louisville School District has enhanced its online lunch payment service through a partnership with EZpay.  Using your credit or debit card, you may pay for school meals.
 EZpay gives you the ability to:
  • Deposit funds to your student's account via credit card at your convenience, 24/7. The money will typically appear in your student's account within 24 hours.
  • Set up a single account for all the students in your family.
  • See your student's cafeteria purchases.
  • Check your student's account balance and request e-mail notification when the balance falls below a specified amount. 
  • Maintain a complete record of your payments.
