Special Area Teachers
& School Staff
It's time to show our
appreciation at Christmas to our amazing special area teachers who teach drama, art, music, Spanish (2 teachers), PE (2 teachers), computer, and our school librarian. This collection will also be shared with our school support staff that includes our maintenance, office staff, IT director, cafeteria manager and cafeteria monitors, and administration. (We don't want them to be left out because they do not have homeroom classes.)
Teal Graeter is taking up the collection this year.
If you would like to donate (any amount), please send cash or check in a sealed envelope to the school office marked "Teal Graeter" by Wednesday, December 12.
Let's show our staff that they are appreciated this holiday season!

News from Mrs. Sims
Brrrr! It's been a cold week at SMM. Did you know that we do take students outside for recess as long as the weather allows and the "feels like" temperature is above 32 degrees? They love the chance to run and play after hours of working in the classrooms, and fresh air is good for them. Please dress your children accordingly. They need their coats, hats, and gloves every day. They need to wear long pants (or leggings) to keep out the chill. I know that many of our boys prefer to wear shorts each day. It's your call if that continues through the winter months.
The joyful Advent season is upon us. This is such a special time to work with children. They are full of joy and wonder, and the anticipation of the Christmas holidays is high. Here is the Advent prayer that we will say each afternoon in December. Enjoy!
God of Love,
Your son, Jesus, is your greatest gift to us.
He is a sign of your love.
Help us walk in that love during the weeks of Advent,
As we wait and prepare for His coming.
We pray in the name of Jesus, our Savior.
Coping with the Holidays
We want to make everyone aware of
two great websites and a free workshop available to you this holiday season:
- Stress and depression can ruin your holidays and hurt your health. Being realistic, planning, and seeking support can help ward off stress and depression. Click here to access a Mayo clinic link on this topic.
- Think the holidays are stressful for you? They can be just as bad for your child. These strategies can help keep your child calm.
This workshop is free and will be offered at Saint Leonard School,
440 Zorn Ave:
Thursday, January 31 6:30-8:00 p.m.
This crash course in social media offers tools to protect and empower children in our data-driven world. Healthy screen usage, monitoring screen time and privacy
concerns will be covered.
Call 897-5265 to RSVP for this workshop.

A light reception will immediately follow in the Hospitality Room.
Have your children ever asked you why we do certain things at the Mass each Sunday?
- Do you know why we stand, sit, and kneel?
- Why does the priest wash his hands during the preparation of gifts? Is it because his hands are dirty?
- Why do we sing the Psalms?
- Why does the priest bow in front of and kiss the altar?
- Why does he pour a few drops of water into the wine?
Why, Why, Why? These questions will be answered at a special Teaching Mass, and you will also have the opportunity to ask your own questions.
Fr. Bill Hammer will be presiding at this special Mass. During the Mass he will pause and explain the reason behind all of these rituals. It just may change the way you worship on Sundays!
