News from Mrs. Sims

Parents often ask us what they can do to help their children be more successful in school. Did you know that parents play a critical role in increasing student engagement and achievement in school? If a parent is actively involved and supportive, student achievement increases. Parental involvement also leads to better classroom behavior, because a parent's interest and encouragement can positively affect a child's attitude toward school. What else can you do to make a positive impact on your child's education all the way through high school?
  1. Communicate with the teachers and stay informed.
  2. Be attentive to school and classroom schedules, calendars, events, and assignments.
  3. Support homework expectations. Be a resource for your child and up to date on what they are learning in school.
  4. Send your child to school ready to learn. That means they are rested and well fueled for the day.
  5. Teach them organizational skills. How do you prioritize tasks? How do you manage multiple tasks and obligations?
  6. Know and support the school disciplinary policies.
  7. Take attendance seriously. Your child should be in school and on time every day, unless they are ill.
  8. Make time to talk about school. Show an interest in their friends, teachers, and school work.
Please join us in our mission to make the school experience at SMM the best it can be!

May God Bless You and Your Family,
Wendy Sims, Principal
