The 2nd graders are collecting used, worn out markers to send off for recycling into fuel! Rather than tossing your used markers, please put them in the collection boxes on printer stands in the school hallways or take them to any 2nd grade classroom. Thank you!

ay brings the thought of transitions to our school. The 8th graders will soon transition to high school, others will move on to the next grade level, we all will experience the ease of the summer months, and we will move on to the next challenge in our lives. It is an exciting time, but it also can leave us feeling anxious or sad.
As we count down the days until summer vacation, let's not forget all of the wonderful things that are still going on. Our 2nd and 6th graders planned and conducted a beautiful May Crowning Ceremony on Tuesday in loving tribute to Mary. The 4th graders experienced Pioneer Day, which is the exciting culminating event that celebrates their study of Kentucky history. Next week brings a fun ending to the school year for our 8th graders as we go to Kings Island, have our cookout, and experience graduation day.
A big thanks goes out to all of the parent volunteers who help us with all of these activities. We couldn't do it without you!

Announcing our new Cafeteria Service!
St. Margaret Mary School is pleased to announce that we have chosen Taher, Inc. to manage our school cafeteria for the 2017-18 school year. Taher has been in food service for 36 years and is excited to move into the Louisville market. Our school will have an on-site chef and all of the support of the Taher team. Taher's mission is to provide students with nutritious, freshly prepared meals at an affordable price.

Field Day Fun

Our 7th grade students and PE teachers have a great day of fun and frolicking planned for Field Day. Each grade has specific color shirt that should be worn. Students must bring a lunch and drink as the cafeteria will be closed. Concessions will be available to purchase so plan to bring your dollar bills in a ziploc bag marked with your student's name and homeroom. Parents may
Lunch Account Balances
All lunch accounts must be paid in full and have a positive or zero balance for students to participate in Field Day. Please keep in mind that lunches will be served until Tuesday, May 23; lunch cost is $2.70 per day.
- 8th grade students must be paid up by Tuesday, May 16 to participate in Graduation activities on Wednesday, May 17.
- All other grades must be paid by Tuesday, May 23 for the student to participate in Field Day on Wednesday, May 24.

The SMM 2016-17 Yearbook has arrived and will distributed to JK - 7th grade students beginning Monday, May 22. There will be an opportunity for the students to sign each other's yearbooks in the classrooms.
We are close to selling out,
so please place your order immediately.
If you have placed an order, but not completed payment, a book is not being held for you. Please send in your payment.
Yearbooks are $32 this school year with additional yearbooks each being $30.
Please DO NOT order a yearbook for your 8th grade student; they will automatically receive a yearbook at graduation.

7th Grade DUKE Tip Participants and Recognition
Congratulations to our 7th grade students who participated in the Duke University Talent Identification Program this winter. We had 41 students take the ACT or SAT college entrance exam.
Of those, 15 students have been recognized for receiving scores at the State Recognition Level, and we had one student receive a score to be recognized at the Grand Recognition Level. Congratulations to

SMM Art Students Win in Local Competitions
Every spring, SMM student artwork is entered into two local competitions. We had a winner in the Annual Horsing Around with Art contest, where the winners' art is on display at the Kentucky Derby Museum:
- Olivia Neil (8V) Honorable Mention in her division.
Out of hundreds of entries in the Derby Festival Art Show. SMM had two winners!
- Cody Seymour (1N) 2nd place in his division
- Brennan Stewart (6S/V) Honorable Mention in his division
Their artwork was displayed at several locations during this Derby season, including the Parade Preview.
