Green for Good
Ground Breaking/Press Conference

October 5
10:00 am

Please join us at 10 am on Wednesday, October 5 to celebrate the planting phase of the Green for Good project. The press conference will take place on the school's front lawn.
Mayor Greg Fischer will speak and share his support for this work. Project representatives will speak and the SMM students will be in attendance for this momentous occasion.
Safety, please!

Please do not drop your children off or pick them up on the side of the building.  All parents need to utilize the carpool lines and system that we have in place for drop off and pick up.
Lock your Car Doors
Please make sure your car doors are locked when you are on the SMM property. Most crimes are due to an easy opportunity.
Fall Conferences

PTS conferences are  Thursday, October 6 from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.

All families should have received forms from their homeroom teachers with  the time that has been designated for your conference.  The following doors will be open from 7:30 am - 8:10 pm:
  • Front school doors at the school office
  • The door coming into the school from the breezeway to the gym.
  • The Kindergarten doors that exit to the back parking lot
  • Parish office doors
  • West end doors that go to the parking lot and are used for the YMCA pick up.
All other doors will remain locked.
If for any reason you cannot make your scheduled conference time, please contact your child's homeroom teacher. Any student not attending the conference will be counted as absent for the  conference day. We look forward to seeing everyone next week.

News from Mrs. Sims
Today was our Fall Festival kick-off and pep rally. There is always so much energy and excitement when we come together as a school to celebrate!  We are all very excited about the new Mustang Mile Walk and the Fall Festival later that evening. Please help us make this year's event a success.  A big thanks goes out to our PTO event chairs for making this happen!
You can also show your school spirit by attending next week's Parent/Teacher/Student conferences. These conferences are a wonderful way to show your support of the teachers and open the lines of communication between school and home. You will learn about your child's academic and social progress so far this school year. You will also discuss with your child the goals he or she has set. However, the conferences are limited to 15 minutes each to insure that everyone has a chance to meet. If the need arises for a more in depth conversation, please make a separate appointment so that the teacher has time to truly focus on your child's needs.  We want to be considerate of the teacher's time as well as those who are anxiously waiting in the hallway for their turn.
May God Bless You and Your Family,
Wendy Sims

Green for Good Research Study
IRB # 16.0651

Call or email now to set up an appointment for
Monday or Tuesday, October 3rd & 4th.

Please join other SMM students and staff, including Father Bill and Mrs. Sims in this study!

As a part of the amazing  Green for Good project that is happening on the front lawn, SMM student volunteers are needed to participate in a medical research study.

UL's School of Medicine is conducting a study on the effects of urban vegetation reducing air pollution  and its influence on population health in subjects between the ages of 9-80 years. The study involves  two study visits that will take approximately 45 minutes each, and includes a review of your medical  history, blood pressure, height, weight, waist measurement, urine and blood samples, and  questionnaires about your health.

Each participant will receive a FREE FitBit activity monitor!

Contact the  A-TRAC study team at:

Blessing of the Animals

SMM's Blessing of the Animals will take place on  Tuesday, October 4. The Blessing will take place at 2:15 pm on the football field.

In order that our student dismissal runs smoothly that day, please abide by the following:
  • Anyone bringing an animal to be blessed is asked to park in the church parking lot, NOT in the regular dismissal line behind the gym/PAC.
  • Please let your child's teacher know that he/she will need to be dismissed at 2:15 pm on that day so that they can attend the Blessing. You can send a note or e-mail to the homeroom teacher letting them know that your child will have a pet participating in the Blessing.
  • If you have a dog to be blessed, you will need to gather on the end of the football field closest to the church.
  • If you have a cat to be blessed, you will need to gather on the end of the football field closest to the PAC.
  • All the other animals will need to gather in the middle of the football field.
  • Immediately following the Blessing, you and your child/children are dismissed and should proceed to your cars.
  • All those students not participating in the Blessing will be dismissed at 2:45 pm
Thanks in advance for your attention to this request!  We hope to see you and your pet there.
