Deadline to register is January 11
Seats are still available for the three-day SMART MAP training program February 19 - 21 in Los Angeles, California. This important course is being offered for JATC coordinators, instructors, Union officials, and other sheet metal professionals, and provides in-depth analysis on the problems associated with Substance Use Disorder and other challenges related to mental health issues affecting our members and their families.
The MAP program takes trusted members in their locals - people members already turn to - and gives them the tools they need to actually help their brothers and sisters. Your position in our industry puts you on the front lines with our members, seeing first-hand the damaging effects of these mental health challenges. SMART MAP training will help you further guide those members to the helping services that can change, and in some instances save, their jobs, their families and even their lives.
The core components that comprise MAP training are:
- SMART MAP overview
- Addiction: The disease model
- Relapse sequence
- Stages of change and motivational interviewing
- Confidentiality and ethics for peer representatives
- Communication
- Legal issues
- Weed, Inc.: The Colorado experiment
- Navigation of the health insurance/treatment center world
- Suicide prevention
- Aftercare programs that work for a lifetime
- Changing the culture of our Union: Ending the stigma of addiction
This three-day training course requires participants to travel in and arrive on Monday at the headquarters hotel. Orientation and initial training will start Tuesday morning. Classes will meet daily from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The course will conclude on Thursday with a Friday departure.
