FROM THE DESK OF RANDALL A. KROCKA
SMOHIT Administrator
SMOHIT Supports OSHA's National Safety Stand-Down May 8-12
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction workers, accounting for 350 of the 937 construction fatalities recorded in 2015.
What Is a Safety Stand-Down?
A Safety Stand-Down is a voluntary event for employers to talk directly to employees about safety. This Stand-Down focuses on Fall Hazards and Fall Prevention.
Companies can conduct a Safety Stand-Down by taking a break to have a
Toolbox Talk or other safety activity such as conducting safety equipment inspections, developing rescue plans or discussing job-specific hazards.
The Stand-Down is free and you do not have to register to participate. After your event, you can tell OSHA about your Stand-Down by emailing
oshastanddown@dol.gov, and share your Stand-Down story on social media with the hashtag:
#StandDown4Safety.
Be sure to take a photo of your group during your Stand-Down and email it to SMOHIT at
rkrocka@smohit.org.
