Jubilee Year of Mercy and the Charism of
Blessed Gerard

Fr. Joseph Johnson,ChM

Pope Francis has made the corporal and spiritual works of mercy the central focus of the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy. The Order of Malta was founded by Blessed Gerard with the mission of living the works of mercy. As members, we are invited during this jubilee year to integrate the works of mercy into our lives in an ever more profound way.
A Reflection by Pope Francis
"We will entrust the life of the Church, all humanity, and the entire cosmos to the Lordship of Christ, asking him to pour out his mercy upon us like the morning dew, so that everyone may work together to build a brighter future. How much I desire that the year to come will be steeped in mercy, so that we can go out to every man and woman, bringing the goodness and tenderness of God! May the balm of mercy reach everyone, both believers and those far away, as a sign that the Kingdom of God is already present in our midst!"   Jubilee of Mercy  for the official site
Mercy in Action in Minnesota
For February the spiritual work of mercy for your reflection and practice is:  Instructing The Ignorant . Learn about our faith and be open to talking with others about our beliefs.  There is always something more to discover about our faith.
For February the corporal work of mercy for reflection and practice is:  Give Drink to the Thirsty . Many of our brothers and sisters in Christ do not have access to clean water and suffer from the lack of this basic necessity.  We should support the efforts of those working towards greater accessibility of this essential resource.
Upcoming MN Area opportunities to put into action the spiritual and corporal works of Mercy for our Masters the Sick and Poor:
  • Packing food for Haiti on February 23rd, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Urban Refuge Church.
  • Feed the Poor at the Dorothy Day Center on Friday, February 26th from 4:00 to 6:00pm.
Minnesota Area Grants
It is that time of year to think about the area grants, in 2015 the Minnesota area awarded $3600 in grants to Catholic Eldercare and Laboure Society.
If you have a worthy cause for nomination please submit an application to the Grants Committee by March 15, 2016.
