From your MBEIC Chair
Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Us MBEs are on a roll!

If you think things are slowing down because of the end of school year and graduations are fast approaching, or because not much seems to be going on around us; think twice. There is so much taking place and in the works for MBEs at the SMSDC.

From corporate opportunities that have been shared with us from NSMDC’s MBEIC committees, to support with executive scholarships, and more; to RTF events taking place along with MBE "Idol" contests and even Small Business Week currently taking place, the only issue becomes is: What to pick? Can I do it all? The answer of course is, "Do as much as you can without impacting what matters most."

With this in mind, remember that Premier Face Time will be also soon approaching. This is the largest event for SMSDC and one we should not miss, as we not only have the chance to meet one-on-one with regional corporations, but offers the great opportunity to engage with government agencies looking to meet with us, Certified MBEs. And there is still time to take advantage of early bird discounts end this Friday, May 10th. So, don’t let this one chance pass you by. Register today .

See you there!

Your SMSDC MBEIC Chair,
Beatriz Fernandez

CERTIFICATION
Frequently Asked Questions

How do I obtain a copy of my MBE certification?

Upon approval by the Southwest MSDC Board of Directors, you will receive your welcome letter by email notifying you that your company is now certified as an MBE with SMSDC also included will be your certification number. Once you are approved you can access your certificate at any time using your log-in and password to view/print your certificate. Certification is valid for one year and requires an annual renewal online.

Please contact  alana@smsdc.org  with any questions regarding certification with SMSDC.
PLEASE DO NOT Let your
SMSDC Certification Expire!

Check the expiration date on your SMSDC certification. As a courtesy reminder your certification is about to expire, you will receive an e-mail notification from the AdaptOne portal which looks similar to the image above. DO NOT ignore this e-mail. It may to your spam or junk mail.

Once your SMSDC certification expires, ALL MBEs have to complete the entire certification process from the beginning. For those MBEs in the STATE OF TEXAS, in addition to completing the entire certification process all over again, the HUB certification, which enables you to bid on contracts, is no longer valid.  The HUB certification process is only done once a month. This means for those MBEs in the State of Texas, they will now have to wait an entire month for their HUB certification.

The Austin & San Antonio Regional Task Force presents:
"Contract Ready? MBE Idol Preliminaries"
This is a skill that every Minority Business Owner needs to develop to be successful! SMSDC’s MBE Idol 2019 sponsored by Dell, is a 10 minute marketing presentation in which you position yourself as being   “contract ready” . You do not have to win the MBE Idol to experience the benefits. Each round of competition gives you an opportunity to gain practical experience by “pitching” in front of a panel of judges, comprised of key industry leaders and in the process, learn what makes a compelling marketing presentation. More importantly, you can be assured you will NOT win if you do NOT apply to participate.

To participate, all you have to do is make sure your SMSDC certification is current and submit your PowerPoint Presentation, no longer than 5-7 minutes, to  carol@smsdc.org  no later than Monday May 13 th . Then, join us on Thursday March 16 th  at JE DUNN from 5:30-7:30p.m. for the Austin Regional Task Force’ MBE Idol 2019 Preliminaries. Equipped with your PowerPoint presentation, you will individually present to a panel of judges who will critique your presentation and provide one-on-one constructive feedback.

If you are selected from the preliminaries, you must attend the Semi-Finals and be ready to again present your marketing pitch at the upcoming  Premier Face Time EXPO - Day 1  on Wednesday, June 12th during the Chairman’s Reception, 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Westin Riverwalk Hotel in San Antonio, TX.

The FINALS will take place at a later date over the summer at the DELL headquarters in RoundRock, TX. We will do our best to give as much advanced notification as possible. The final winner of SMSDC’s MBE Idol 2019 will be awarded a  ONE on ONE exclusive meeting with a DELL corporate executive, featured in an upcoming SMSDC e-newsletter, serve as the keynote speaker at a Regional Task Force meeting either in Austin or San Antonio and serve as an honorary judge in SMSDC’s MBE Idol 2020 annual competition.

Allow the excitement of SMSDC’s MBE Idol event, momentum of the feedback, and validation from the esteemed panel of judges propel you to keep approaching potential vendors and customers. Development of these motivational strategies are invaluable and can position you to take full advantage of building your capacity for continued future growth and success.
