Catholic Schools Week

Dear Families,

As a product of Catholic Schools myself, I have nothing but fond memories of Catholic Schools Week. It was like a vacation at school. Every day was some fun twist on the normal, a day enlivened by unusual clothing or a fun activity. It was purposeful fun, the sort of school-sanctioned escape that made being a member of a Catholic school feel like being part of a special community.

Community is front and center with our Catholic Schools Week events this year, so much so that three out of the four days feature activities involve older students buddying up with younger students. These opportunities benefit the little buddies, as they suddenly have older role models to emulate and look up to. The older buddies benefit as well, with the sudden awareness that our younger students do look up to them to set the example. It gives them a chance to use their age and experience to the benefit of others - a key step in developing leadership. Above all, it helps form a sense of community among all here at SMV - old or young, tall or small - we are all Gladiators. We each bring a little bit of Christ’s light to each other.

The week starts with an open house and pancake breakfast, and ends with a day of bowling. In the middle, we’ll read in our pajamas, dress to the nines for Mass, compete in a schoolwide game of bingo, mismatch and crazy-sock it up, and finally, we will enjoy seeing the full range of talents this wonderful school possesses while comfortably lounging around in our hoodies. We’ll make cards to support our community, and bring in peanut butter and jelly to feed the hungry. Our activities mix fun with purpose, which just so happens to be the recipe for joy.

Please see the flyer below for the full details for the week. We look forward to celebrating with you all the blessings of our Catholic identity.

God Bless,

Siggy Spelter

Welcome Archbishop Grob!

The Taylor family of SMV were fortunate to be able to attend the Installation ceremony for our new Archbishop. This is a photo when Archbishop Grob presented the papal bull to the assembly at the Cathedral.

It's Quad-demic Time!

You may have heard or seen this term in the news lately. It refers to the uptick seen recently in cases of the flu, COVID, RSV, and norovirus.

The best defenses are washing hands (some strains seem resistant to hand sanitizer), hydration, and getting adequate rest. Of course, sometimes our best efforts don't help us to avoid illness.

Here is a reminder of our guidelines for sickness/contagious illness. We appreciate your help in stopping the spread, and we hope for healthier days ahead!
