SMV Staff Spotlight

Many of your may have guessed the venerable Mr. Michael Falk, our Jr. High Math teacher, is our resident Jeopardy Champion. This also makes him a natural at coaching Quiz Bowl, which he does for our 6th-8th grade students, and Math Olympiads, for 5th & 6th grade students.

He has been teaching junior high math at SMV since 2010. You may have seen him hosting Trivia Night, running an escape room for the students, helping with the musical, or in church as a substitute organist. He is married to Mrs. Courtney Falk, SMV's band teacher, and is father to Max (8th grade) and Elliott (4th grade). When he's not at school, he enjoys scuba diving, ham radio, singing and playing music, cooking, traveling the back roads of Wisconsin, reading, board games, basketball, and biking.

You will definitely see Mr. Falk helping with the Auction this weekend. We're blessed to have him here at SMV!

Beginner Band, Middle Band, Jr High Band, and Mrs Falk would like to invite you to attend their Spring Concert tonight! Everyone has been working so hard and progressing like crazy, and they are excited to perform for you again.

All three bands will be featured, including some small ensembles from Jr High, and a Beginner Band demonstration. We have a few tricks up our sleeves, and a few surprises planned, so this is one concert you will not want to miss! Come support your fellow students, and our wonderful music program!

Good Luck to Our 8th Grade Boys!

The 8th grade Boys Basketball team will be playing in the Padre Serra Tournament this Saturday. We know it's a busy weekend, but they would be so very grateful for your support. The game doesn't interfere with your Auction prep either!

Come cheer them on at Domincan HS. The game time is 12:15pm (vs. St. Matthew). Go Gladiators!

Practice Makes Perfect!

Congratulations to the Piano contest participants on an outstanding job this year. The national Federation of music club contest was held on February 8th and students were required to memorize two level appropriate pieces. All 15 students that participated received superior ratings!

The first weekend in March, those students also participated in the APT piano contest where they performed three pieces by memory for a piano judge. All students received perfect scores and all points go towards trophies that can be earned. This year trophies will be awarded to Landon Puetzer, Charlotte Driscoll, Louisa LoCoco and Alice LoCoco.

Congratulations Piano students!

This year participants include

Landon Puetzer, Charlotte Driscoll, Johnny LoCoco, Louisa LoCoco, Grace LoCoco, Alice LoCoco, Ceci Jennaro, Teddy McCormack, Elise Pilgreen, Maddie Scott, Elinor Sward, Claire Munro, Jeremiah Fee, Matt Laabs, and Amelia Klind

SMV Athletics

SMV Track Beginning Soon!

We are excited to welcome back our athletes and welcome new ones to SMV Track and Field. Track is offered for 5th to 8th grade students. A Track Sign up form can be found here.

The sign up form contains information on ordering a jersey (optional) and signing up to our notification app.  Practices will start March 17th and general run every Monday and Thursday from 5:30pm-7:00pm. Practices are on the SMV grounds. Our first meet will be indoors on April 5th.

We will have a parent meeting at 6:30pm after the March 17th practice.

To run a successful track program, we need coaches and volunteers. We are especially looking for more help this year! We love having volunteers who participated in track and field or cross country or who are athletically inclined. Let us know at smvegtrack@gmail.com if you are interested in being part of this great SMV team.

T-Ball Registration Starting Soon!

Students entering K3-2nd grade in fall are eligible to participate in SMV T-ball. Games are on Wednesday nights mid-June through July, from 6-7pm on the fields north of the church parking lot. The program is restricted to parish and school families. Families need not attend SMV, but they should at least be parish members. The cost is $26 and includes a t-shirt, a popsicle after each game, and a championship medal on the final night!

This program would not be possible without volunteer coaches, so please consider helping out. Registration will open March 16th and close on May 1st. You must register by May 1st to guarantee a t-shirt. Please contact stmarystball@stmaryeg.org with any questions.

Register now for spring session of Chess and Creative Writing Club. Copy of the flyer here.
