Snow Days
Dear Families,
There is just something magical about a snow day. Bonus vacation. Like finding a $20 bill in your jacket pocket. In reality, it’s worth $20, just like any other $20. A snow day is just a day off, no different from a federal holiday or any random Saturday. But it’s extra, a gift, a fruit of the season. You were supposed to be at school and now you’re not, and the world is suddenly so beautiful and white and cold and the day is yours to savor in whatever way you choose.
As a teacher, a lot of this still applied, but now as a parent and an administrator, not so much. There are so many things to do, boxes to check, people to notify. I can’t just wallow in the joy of it any more.
Today, we didn’t quite cross that threshold for a snow day, which I am sure disappointed some. I will say it did ease my stress-level a bit to watch and hear the joy of the children finally getting that chance to play in this long-awaited bounty of snow. Kids screamed and giggled, stretched and swished themselves into snow angels, and played some of the slipperiest games of soccer and football I’d ever seen. If you can’t be at home, then second best is being outside with all of your friends.
From all of us at SMV, stay warm and safe. Whether you enjoy the snow best with a sled or a hot cocoa, please enjoy it, though please make sure your children do their fair share of shoveling. As you read up on the latest news from SMV please enjoy some of the photos from this wild day.
God Bless,
Siggy Spelter
