| | Committed to a Safe Built Environment | | Code Committee Advance Key Code Change Proposals | | |
The SN-ICC Code Committee has been hard at work, finalizing and submitting 19 code change proposals to ICC on behalf of our Chapter for the upcoming Committee Action Hearings #2 (CAH2) this April in Orlando. These changes cover IBC general provisions and the IRC, and the committee collaborated closely with ICC staff to give them the best chance of passage. Our committee chairs, Allen Burris and Jeff Grove, are also working with jurisdictions and industry partners to strengthen support for these proposals. The hearings begin on April 27th.
The CAH2 monographs were released on March 13, 2025 and can be found on ICC's website HERE. Our committee is diligently reviewing all proposed changes to assess their impact on Southern Nevada. We are engaging with proponents to offer support or suggest modifications that better align with the needs of SN-ICC and its members. Stay tuned for updates as we continue advocating for meaningful code improvements!
| | Local Amendment Process Nearing Completion | | The local Amendment process is nearing completion. At this point, all the industry meetings have been held, and suggested changes have been made. The amendment packages are being proofread and finalized for submittal to the applicable city councils and county commissions. The committee anticipates the amendments to be ratified by each jurisdiction in the coming months. It is not possible to know the actual date of adoption until each jurisdiction has voted; however, the committee anticipates adoption coming early summer. If this follows the traditional path, there will be a grace period to allow the use of the current adopted code until near the end the year. | | |
The Southern Nevada Building Officials (SNBO) have reached a significant milestone in the 2024 code cycle, having completed all local industry meetings. The committees are now finalizing the amendments, incorporating feedback received and adding a few new revisions.
SNBO aims to finalize all amendment packages before the end of March, allowing building officials to begin the code adoption process within their respective jurisdictions. This collaborative effort helps ensure the amendments are practical, effective, and aligned with the needs of the region’s building industry and communities.
Visit our SNBO website HERE to stay up-to-date and see the most current versions of the amendment proposals. Thank you to everyone who participated!

The Southern Nevada Chapter of the International Code Council (SN-ICC) is dedicated to supporting its stakeholders in creating and maintaining safe built environments. In line with this mission, we actively support local initiatives that foster community engagement, workforce development, and cultivate future industry professionals.
We are honored to assist the Walker Elementary's Robotics team in their participation at the CREATE Robotics U.S. Open Tournament this spring, providing them with opportunities to showcase their skills on a national platform. Additionally, our support extends to students from the Northeast Career and Technical Academy (NECTA), a part of the Clark County School District, enabling them to compete in the Nevada State SkillsUSA Competition in Reno. These initiatives empower students, enhance their technical competencies, and promote leadership within the construction and engineering sectors, ensuring a robust and competent workforce dedicated to maintaining safe built environments.
SN-ICC is also proud to be a sponsor of Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas' 5th Annual Putt Fore Homes Golf Tournament on April 14, 2025, at the Red Rock Country Club. This event is instrumental in funding affordable housing initiatives, directly contributing to the development of secure and stable communities in Southern Nevada. Find out more about the tournament HERE.
Notably, these funding initiatives were inspired by ideas and requests from our membership.

- FROM NAHB: 2024 IRC offers lower building costs
The 2024 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) offers home builders more compliance paths and lower building costs compared to the 2021 IECC, according to a cost analysis by Home Innovation Research Labs (HIRL). This analysis followed an earlier HIRL analysis on the 2024 IRC that found “no cost impact or even a cost savings for new homes compared to the 2021 codes.”
NAHB staff and members served on the 2024 IECC Residential consensus committee to ensure that builder’s interests were well represented, and affordable homeownership was at the forefront of committee deliberations. Following the DOE’s determination, several jurisdictions have started reviewing the 2024 IECC for adoption.
