From adversity to becoming a role model for others, Carlada Thomas did not allow her circumstances, including COVID-19 and school closures, stop her from pursuing her dreams of becoming a social worker. Carlada’s resiliency and adult education provided by the Sutter County Superintendent’s Office of Education paved the way for her to complete her high school diploma and enroll in classes at Yuba College. "Unconditional love" from others, a commitment to completing her goals, and paying it forward to her local community keeps Carlada from giving up.

The next Lunch with LARAEC will take place tomorrow, February 4th at 12:30 p.m. Tomorrow’s session is titled, A Picture (or Video)'s Worth a Thousand Words. Two veteran ESL teachers will share videos and images that have been tested in the classroom and on Schoology to illustrate specific grammar points and generate interesting discussions. These media provide meaningful practice for students to construct their own understanding of new grammatical concepts and current issues. They say an image is worth a thousand words, but only if the image is rich enough in meaning. We've curated the web to give you those thousand words and resources will be shared via google drive during the presentation.

Join members of the Accel San Mateo County Consortium as they host CALPRO “Success For All Learners Through Equity” training. In this training, participants will learn about the cultural competence framework and the role of unconscious bias. Participants will share a definition of equity and explore program and classroom practices that support equity for all students and then consider ways of using data to identify equity issues. The training is for adult education providers, including front office staff, support and instructional staff, and administrators.

The California Adult Literacy Professional Development Project (CALPRO) and the California Department of Education are pleased to offer a unique professional learning opportunity! Join other agency teams of ESL instructors, CTE instructors, and program administrators for an Integrated Education and Training (IET) Implementation Clinic. There are 4 principal features of this unique online professional learning opportunity, which is open to up to 8 agency teams (each team is composed of 3 staff members). The 4 principal features are: two day-long virtual training sessions; live, interactive discussions through three 75-minute online webinars; ongoing online discussions; and a capstone project. 2021 Nursing Education Investment Grants Program Application Now Available!
|
|
FoundationCCC is pleased to announce the availability of the 2021 Nursing Education Investment Grants Program application for projects that facilitate, coordinate with, or complement efforts to educate and train nurses through community colleges across California and that address at least one funding priority described in the Application Guidelines. Up to $495,000 in total grant funds will be awarded in 2021.

PPIC - A New Era of Student Access at California’s Community Colleges
|
|
In the wake of community colleges adopting AB 705, PPIC research finds that shares of students starting in transfer-level courses quadrupled between 2015 and 2019, with rates of course completion doubling and tripling. Although there has been great progress, inequities still linger across the system. While the policy has narrowed enrollment gaps and course completion gaps between white students and Latino and African American students, notable gaps remain at some colleges. In the following report, PPIC aims to shed light on how AB 705 affected student access, outcomes, and racial equity by specifically looking at fall 2019, the deadline for implementing AB 705. PPIC draws on three main data sources, including 1) student-level longitudinal data provided by the Chancellor’s Office, 2) a comprehensive scan of colleges’ documents and websites and 3) interviews with college faculty, staff, and administrators.

As you know, activities related to CAEP 18-19 funds ended 12/31/20. Close out certification for CAEP members is due 3/1/21. Any remaining balances revert back to the State General Fund.
