Buying in Season Saves Money
Making half of your plate fruits and vegetables is an important way for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Getting the most value for your food dollars on fruits and vegetables throughout the year can be done by purchasing canned, frozen, and when they are in-season. Many fruits and vegetables can be purchased in stores anytime of the year, but you may notice they are more or less expensive depending on the time of year. Buying in-season means fresh produce is harvested in that particular season, and is in abundance; therefore, making it much cheaper, and is bursting in flavor and nutrition! Your local farmers market is one of the best ways to spend your SNAP benefits on fresh, local produce, at low prices.
