Welcome Our Latest Green Businesses

Axium Solar specializes in the design and construction of high quality solar photovoltaic systems for commercial and residential. Their team of skilled renewable energy experts engages with owners, architects, engineers and contractors to facilitate all phases of project development from design through construction and beyond. While their business clearly involves sustainability, their services are not what earned them Green Business Certification. Their green initiatives include: replacing all fluorescent bulbs with LEDs; installing over 25kW of solar as their primary energy source and investing in energy storage to store the created energy during the day. Axium Solar's goals are to come as close to possible to Net Zero and make it easy for everyone to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Krypton Solutions provides innovative responses to major customers in the semiconductor, medical, defense/security/aerospace and energy arena. David Conley, Krypton's Green Team lead, and his team eliminated Styrofoam in the breakrooms, created an extensive Environmental Policy and purchased more environmentally-friendly cleaning products and recycled content products. Krypton's mission statement reads in part: "Krypton Solutions recognizes that it has a responsibility to the environment beyond legal and regulatory requirements. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and continually improving our environmental performance as an integral part of our business strategy and operating methods, with regular review points. We will encourage customers, suppliers and other stakeholders to do the same."

La Costa Apartments ' focus on sustainability can be seen throughout their property and in each apartment home. Equipped with Energy Star appliances and water-saving showerheads, resident homes are ready for green living! Door-side valet service for recycling and trash pickup makes recycling easy for everyone. Interior and exterior common areas are bright with energy-efficient LED lighting. Drought-tolerant landscaping and groundcovers reduce mowing and water use. Waste is minimized by their purchase of previously-used furniture and electronics from other Westdale Properties. Allie MacDonald, property manager, is constantly on the lookout for ways to operate more sustainably. Currently, the complex is installing an albedo (solar reflectance) roof, which absorbs less heat and keeps it up to 60 degrees cooler.

Pro Tint Professional Glass Tinting provides auto window tinting in a variety of shades along with custom cuts to match each car's specification. Owner Claudio Tamburri has taken steps to reduce his company's overall carbon footprint. Window tinting can enhance a vehicle's appearance and block up to 99% of harmful UV rays, block dangerous glare and reduce your car's interior temperature by up to 30 degrees. Green initiatives include installing all LED lighting throughout his facility, staff environmental education, reuse of supplies and refurbished office furnishings. All associates are onboard with sustainability-they bring their own reusable mugs, re-use cardboard and break-down cardboard boxes before recycling. The Pro Tint team encourages their suppliers and vendors to participate in recycling and other sustainable actions.

And the Winning Name is...
In the last newsletter, we asked for suggested names for the Commercial Recycling coordinator's wrapped Ford C-MAX hybrid vehicle. The winning name is " Emma." It's a variation of emerald, which is green, and something we are all strive to be. Stop by to see Emma at the Great American Cleanup Beach Party on Saturday, April 8 at our Green Business Certification (GBC) booth. Look for Emma at GBC events and cruisin' about Plano. If you see her about town, take a photo and share it on the City's Facebook page. #Planogreenbusiness.
