On the second day of furniture shopping, I hurriedly zipped through the store in which I had discovered a wall hanging I liked very much the day before and was ready to purchase. (Hurry before someone else nabs it!)
Breezing by a saleswoman, she says, "You look like a woman on a mission!" I smiled. "Yes I am!" ... 100% in my "get-it-done zone" ... determination in my step and a purposeful expression on my face.
I am most days ... a woman on a mission. I move fast and determinedly. It's just the way I roll.
What mission are YOU on?
Are you on a material mission of hunting for a new car, new house, new toaster oven, new couch, a different brand of toilet paper?
Are you on a mission to self-heal? Shed weight? Reclaim your time? Create more? Create less? Find someone to marry? Begin a business or start your career? Write a poetry book? Paint a gift for someone? Retire? Make travel plans for your dream trip to Greece? Learn pickleball? Make it to the weekend?
Or maybe you're trying to call off a mission. Abort! Abort!
Is today's mission to annoy your husband or wife by nagging about a trivial detail around the house?
Is your mission to make amends with a relative or friend after a tiff? (Which may hardly matter as much now as it did then.)
Perhaps your mission is to invite in more happiness? (Thus eliminating those evil outside forces pushing against you.)
Are you on a mission to Mars? (Or trying to understand your husband who seems to have come from there!)
We zip through our days scurrying around on little missions like spies in a movie. How many of our missions feel doable, obtainable, impossible? MISSION IMPOSSIBLE. Better yet, split up that second word:
MISSION I'M POSSIBLE
A mission of a nonprofit organization refers to its short statement of why it exists and what it does. Some of us feel we have a "life mission" - a deep deep passion about something we will always keep alive and nurture. It defines who we are as a person and can identify our purpose.
Some people travel on a service mission - an international volunteer opportunity, such as to Haiti or Africa, or another third world country to serve as missionaries in poor communities. (If you have done this ... bravo ... I am in awe!!)
Whatever is your mission, whether for this hour, today, tomorrow, this week, this month, this year - or for infinity - stay focused. Feel the burn. Get it done. Keep it going. Notice the determination in your step, feel the purpose on your face.
Eventually it will become ... MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
