This Sunday

This Sunday is Epiphany. Peter Henry will be preaching his sermon, Lego Jesus, based on 1 Peter 5. We will be ordaining and installing our newest officers at all three services.

ï»żThe music is proved by David Brinson, Sarah Allred, the 9:45 Music Team and the Geneva and Chancel choirs.

The current weather forecast is for sunny skies on Saturday and slightly warmer weather. So as of right now, we are assuming all things are normal on Sunday. Be on the lookout for emails and social media if the weather turns out to be worse that currently forecast.

This Sunday we are blessed to ordain and/or install the following members as officers at Davidson College Presbyterian Church. Deacons: Avery Fawcett, Steve Goodman, Jane Holland, Rosie Honeycutt, Heather Kompanik, Derek May, Eric Newell, Barbara Russell, and Rachel Walt. Elders: Audri Baker, Lyn Batty, Benton Bragg, Anascott Bryan, Gordon Clark, Brandi Green, Joel Ritchie, Tom Ross, Elyse Stevenson, and John Woods.

WEAR WILDCAT, WOLFPACK, HURRICANES, BUCKEYE, and REDWINGS red, the color/symbol of the Holy Spirit, for ordination.

The service is in person in the Sanctuary, as well as live-streamed to Facebook and YouTube. It is also broadcast live on WDAV (89.9 or WDAV.org). Free childcare is provided for all services.

This US Sunday

February 2 is our next “This is US” Sunday. We will have one service of worship at 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary. There is childcare for worship, but no Sunday school that day. The annual congregational meeting to receive the annual report and act upon the report of the Elections Committee is Sunday February 2 following 10:00 a.m. worship.

Scout Sunday

February 9 is Scout Sunday at DCPC. If you are involved in any scouting units, Girls Scouts or Scouting USA, and would like to help in worship, please contact Peter Henry (phenry@dcpc.org). We can use ushers, speakers and food collectors for Souper Bowl of Caring.

Confirmation Project

Laney Pleasants and Tilly Honeycutt want your crayons! We will take ANY Crayons in ANY shape for the Crayon Initiative. They create new crayons for kids in the hospital out of old crayons. Being a kid in the hospital can be overwhelming and boring, providing free crayons for the kids can provide fun activities and give them some happiness. We also have to pay for shipping, so we will take any donations for this, and any extra money can be donated to the organization as well.

This Sunday's topic and speaker: exploring care and support services with Amanda Buck, Community Educator, Alzheimer’s Association

Short Story Theology

ï»żOur next installment of Short Story Theology is this Tuesday, January 14, at 7:30 in the Davidson Room of the Pines. Contact Peter Henry (phenry@dcpc.org) for a Zoom link or an electronic copy of the story. Hard copies are in the Burris GatheringSpace and Martha Perry at the Pines has a few copies.

Each week a dedicated group of members gathers to pray for the needs of our community and world. You are invited to join in this prayer ministry. We gather on Wednesdays from 11:30- Noon in the DCPC Parlor. If you are interested in the prayer ministry but cannot attend at that time, please reach out to Rachel Walt or Robert Alexander or contact the church office at info@dcpc.org. Make 2025 a year of prayer. Come join us.

On February 1, 1960, four Black freshmen from North Carolina A&T State University staged a sit-in at the whites-only lunch counter. The students--David Richmond, Frank McCain, Ezell Blair, and Joseph McNeil—were subsequently joined by other students from area colleges and even local high schools. Their six-month campaign of non-violent, direct action not only succeeded in desegregating the lunch counter at Woolworth’s, but also inspired similar sit-ins in 55 cities across 13 states. On November 21, 2024, DCPC’s Social Justice Committee led a group of some two dozen DCPC members to see where it all happened! To learn more about this inspiring trip to Greensboro, NC, click here.

We are excited that DCPC has a regular monthly date to serve at Angels and Sparrows Community Table! We are scheduled for the first Tuesday of each month. We are responsible for providing seven volunteers. Please see the date, jobs, and time slots by clicking here, and sign up for what works for you. If you have questions, please contact Holly Frisbie at (336) 918-6351 or hyfrisbie@gmail.com.

Friends - due to the threat of inclement weather and a desire to keep our guests and volunteers safe we have decided not to host guests tonight in Davidson. We have been assured by the leadership at Roof Above that local Men's and Women's Shelters will provide adequate overflow beds to accommodate the guests who have lodging needs. Thank you for your ongoing support of this ministry. Stay home if the weather gets bad and stay safe. Help a neighbor in need if the opportunity presents itself.

We partner with Roof Above in Charlotte to host 10 guests every Friday night in the Congregation House.
