Governor Stacey's Message

Hello Sierra Nevada Region Members, Friends and Sponsors!

Happy April Fools Day!!

But I’m not fooling when I say, we have the 49 th Annual SNR Spring Conference

Registration now OPEN! YES!

Please see the Call and registration links below.

49 th ANNUAL SNR Spring Conference June 6-8, 2025

We are so pleased to announce our theme for this year’s Conference “Making Dreams Soar”. We are going to make it all about the “DREAMS”. The Conference committee has been working tirelessly to keep the costs down. All of our costs for the conference primarily cover just the meals and the audio-visual needs. The Atlantis Casino Resort does provide us with extras based on room reservations at the hotel. The deadline for the Atlantis Room Block Group Rate is May 16, 2025, at 5pm PDT. For hotel questions or concerns please contact The Atlantis toll free: 1-800-723-6500 and reference Soroptimist International.

I’m also so excited and have already registered for SIA’s Leadership Roundtable that is coming up

June 24, 2025, from 3pm to 6pm PDT (virtual). This SIA event is open to all our region/club members, and I highly encourage everyone to attend. The cost is just $50 and it is worth it. Whether you aim to strengthen your leadership abilities or feel inspired to pursue future leadership roles within Soroptimist, this training will help you grow and become a more effective leader.

And if you are seeking a more intensive leadership development opportunity? Learn

about the 2025-2026 Soroptimist Leadership Fellows Program.

I also wanted to give Club Presidents and Club Treasurers an update on dues from SIA.

During their February 2025 meeting, the SIA Board of Directors approved the following

budget parameters:

  • A USD $1.00 increase in SIA dues, reflecting the projected U.S. cost of living adjustment,
  • A USD $0.25 increase in SI dues (per capita), and
  • A possible increase in insurance premiums for U.S. Clubs, depending on renewal rates.

The parameters were approved according to SIA’s Bylaws Section 10.2, which states that dues are intended to fund governance and member services. Additionally, the voluntary contribution of Founders Pennies will see an annual increase of USD $0.06. For further details, please visit SIA’s frequently asked questions page.

REMINDER: 2025-2026 SIA President-elect

The ballot to elect SIA’s 2025-2026 president-elect is now open through May 1. Links to the electronic ballot were sent to clubs in good standing. Resumes and videos for both candidates can be found here. They are also available to view on YouTube.

With gratitude and love

Stacey Jensen

Sierra Nevada Region Governor 2024-2026

Hello, fantastic Members of the Sierra Nevada Region!

It’s getting close to Conference 2025, and we are planning and putting fun things

together with Governor Stacey in order to provide you with a memorable

experience! Please put the date in your calendars and plan to attend. Send your

three Delegates so they can vote on the new Nomination Committee Members

and a bylaw change.

June 6-8 at the Atlantis Resort and Casino in Reno!!

Also, there are opportunities to sponsor in order to defray some of the costs *(we

are always trying to make it more affordable), so take a look and see where you or

your club or local businesses may want to participate.

Contact Cheryl Foley 916-203-8204, Sheryl Longsworth 916-833-1218 or

2025-2026 Soroptimist Leadership Fellows Program (first

session)

Registration coming soon!

March and April’s UpliftHER Focus is on Single Parenting.

This is an obstacle that women and girls face on their path to

formal education and economic empowerment. SIA headquarters

will share suggested projects related to that obstacle that count

towards our Big Goal, of helping make the dreams of half a

million more women and girls come true by 2031. Clubs can

participate in the quarterly project focus by sharing SIA posts and

posting their own projects with the hashtag #SoroptimistsUpliftHER.

What Might That Look like?

Financial assistance for childcare during school or training programs can make a huge difference to a single parent! If your club provides childcare grants to single mothers, be sure to report it to SIA.

Ways to Get Involved!

This is a completely voluntary initiative, but we do hope members and clubs will be excited to participate!

• Share SIA’s posts about each monthly focus on social media.

• Post about your club’s own project using the hashtag #SoroptimistsUpliftHER.

• Participate in one of the suggested quarterly projects and report it to SIA as appropriate!

You can share your ideas with other members on your website/Facebook page and at the Conference in June! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at Program@soroptimistsnr.org.

How are those nominations coming along?

I hope each club is preparing if not actively working on nominations for their Board for next year. This includes not only your Nomination Committees but each member of each club to suggest potential candidates or be candidates themselves.

It’s not always easy to fill those spots. May I suggest thinking a little outside the box?

Soroptimist International of Truckee Meadows has Co President-Elect’s this current year. Two women are sharing the duties. One is a veteran member and the other a more novice member. This has worked to not only share the load but also establish a mentoring situation. They will continue next year as Co-Presidents.

Another instance is a current President whose President-Elect feels she is not ready to be President. The two can be Co-Presidents for the year and the mentoring can take place. The following year, the mentee is ready to lead on her own.

As you look at your club, see how these mentorship opportunities present themselves and be innovative as you work on your new Board.

Please reach out if you have questions or additional ideas.

Dream It, Be It – Chairs

It is an exciting time of the year. Many of our clubs have either completed or are close to completing a DREAM IT, BE IT program. Just think of the impact all of you havemade on young women and know that we continue to grow through mentoring and relationship building. According to AI, “Dream It, Be It, is a crucial program for

Soroptimist because it empowers girls to achieve their education and career goals, helping them break cycles of poverty and violence by providing access to professional role models, career education, and resources, aligning with Soroptimist’s mission of transforming the lives of women and girls.”

Now is the time to prepare to measure the experiences that were and are being provided by your club. Below are links to valuable resources that each club will need to complete the program cycle. An evaluation form for girls, a guide to outline the evaluation process, a reporting and evaluation worksheet and a link to submit your final report for the year.

Best of all is the participant certificate that shows each students achievement and each clubs dedication to young women. Thank you, Sierra Nevada Region for giving students a powerful voice to help shape their future.
