Greetings from Governor Stacey Jensen:

Hello Sierra Nevada Region Members, Friends and Sponsors!

Just 10 more days until Christmas and 17 more days until 2026!! I can’t believe that the new year is upon us! This entire biennium has gone by so fast. I am so grateful for all of our Sierra Nevada Region Members and all the hard work that you do in your communities and beyond.

I also wanted to make sure as we move into January after the busy holiday season, this is the perfect time to review your budget and club roadmap/strategic plan and check to see if you are on track. It’s also a great time to think about succession planning. This ensures a smooth transition as clubs start thinking about who should step up to leadership of the club. Passing that torch and making sure that your club members understand what each position’s responsibilities are. Start off with a brief job description for each position For those of you who are currently in a club leadership position, you can share this at your January Program meeting, even have your club members ask questions and ask everyone to start thinking about the future leadership of your club.

I also wanted to share some new information regarding the 49th Biennial Convention in Incheon, South Korea scheduled for July 22-25, 2026. Here is a high level overview of what the agenda will look like:

There will also be a Pre-Conference Tour on Tuesday, July 21 that will include Museums, Insadong Cultural Street Changdeokgung Palace, and Bukchon Hanok Village. I would also like to share the dates from SIA on the Hotel and Registration information that I received:

We get a lot of questions on what does the registration fee cover? It covers the general business meeting, Convention expenses and registration for one club delegate. I’m so excited and can’t wait to see our delegation there at Convention.

So as we wrap up this year, please hold your loved ones close and enjoy the love and friendship

of your club members, friends and family. From all of us on the Sierra Nevada Region Leadership Team, we hope you have a glorious holiday season and a very Happy New Year!

With gratitude and love

Stacey Jensen

Sierra Nevada Region Governor 2024-2026

Lastly, a quick reminder: don’t forget to check your club emails for the SIA Board of Directors election. The electronic voting portal opened on October 31 and will close on January 6. You should have received a personalized link for your club to vote for the candidates for SIA future leadership. Each candidate has a resume that you can review with your club. If you are unable to access your club’s email. Please reach out to snradmin@soroptimistsnr.org

24/25 BGAP Club Participation and Impact Report (English Only)

Are you aware that grant opportunities are available to help fund your project next year?

The Soroptimist Club Grant online application opens on January 2. Now is the perfect time for clubs to get ready by reviewing application tips and the application form itself.

Don’t forget—you can share your story! Consider inviting previous grant recipients or program participants to share their experiences as well. #SoroptimistStoriesArePowerful

View our overall impact and progress towards our Big Goal.

Big Goal Accelerator Projects play a vital role in our journey to reach the Big Goal of empowering half a million women and girls through improved access to education. The effort and preparation you dedicate will significantly benefit the clubs in your region. If you have any questions or need clarification, please don’t hesitate to contact me—I’m always happy to assist.

As promised during the Fall Meetings, here is the link for BGAP projects that were submitted and approved last year. Does your community have a need that aligns with one of the BGAP project opportunities? Consider reviewing the available grant programs and project ideas to see if there’s a fit for your local area.

Below, you’ll find a link highlighting our region’s achievements from last year and the new targets set for each region for 2025-2026. It’s one of those moments where success inspires even higher expectations—while our goal for 2024-2025 was 176 BGAP projects, we accomplished an outstanding 602! As a result, we’ve been challenged with a 10% increase, bringing our new goal to 662 projects. Together, we can absolutely achieve this!

Live your Dream

Hello Fabulous Live Your Dream Club Chairs,

You have all been working so hard on the Live Your Dream Awards Program. Most of you are planning on giving 3 or more Live Your Dream awards this club year. Many of you are still in need of extra applications. Please continue to reach out to me if you need extra applications. On the same note, if your club has any extra applications to share, please send them to me as soon as possible. We have Clubs with the funds to give multiple LYD awards; they need more applicants to give the funds to. We are on track to meet our SIA-assigned target goal of 136 LYD awards. Keep up the fantastic work you are all doing, and please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if I can be of assistance.

Below are some friendly reminders:

A woman may only be awarded the Live Your Dream Award once in her lifetime.

We have women applying for the LYD award this year who were previous LYD award winners. Once a woman has received a LYD award, she is no longer eligible to apply again. She would be disqualified from applying for any future LYD award from all clubs, not just the club she received the award from.

Clubs should keep a permanent record of all previous LYD awards the club has given. SIA is trying to screen and remove all current applications from any previous LYD award recipients. If a woman applies for the LYD award and is not chosen to receive an award, she may reapply in the future. If she is chosen as a LYD award recipient, she may NOT apply again in the future.

Ready to start selecting applicants for judging?

Here are some tips to assist with your selection process.

Verifying References

We recommend reaching out to the applicant’s reference(s) to verify they did indeed write the recommendation and stand by it. This can help catch any fraudulent applications, but it can also be helpful to gather more insight into the applicant and their situation. Depending on circumstances and/or cultural background, details may not be included in the application. Refer to the Sample Reference Phone Script and Sample Reference Email if you’re not sure what to say!

Sharing Applications/Requesting More Applications

If Your Club Needs More Applications

Contact your region chair to see if other local clubs have applications to share—we can transfer them in the online system. If your club is open to non-local applications, we have HUNDREDS of eligible women over 75 miles from a club, and we’d be happy to share them. Please fill out the Non-local Application Request Form.

If Your Club Has Too Many Applications

Reach out to your region chair or other clubs in the region to see if they need additional applications. If they do, request the transfer in the Indicate Your Club’s Decision stage. Please remember that before requesting this, the receiving club must agree to accept the application first. SIA staff will manually move the application. Please allow a few business days for processing.

Leaving Applications in the Indicate Your Club's Decision Stage

It's okay to leave applications in the "Indicate Your Club’s Decision" stage until judging is complete and your online report is submitted, especially if you plan to share them with another club. The receiving club must agree to accept the applications. At the very least, your club is responsible for notifying all applicants about their award status, even those who did not receive a LYD award.

Important Deadlines:

  •  FEBRUARY 1: District & Region–level judging deadline
  •  MARCH 15: Federation–level judging deadline
  •  MARCH (or earlier!) Honor your club recipient by holding and publicizing an awards event.

If you have any questions, I’m here for you!

Happy Holidays,

Billie
