Hello Sierra Nevada Region Members, Friends and Sponsors!
Happy 4 th of July! I hope you are celebrating with friends and family!
Welcome to our new club year! It’s been so fun to see all the photos of all the new club officers on our social media pages. Congratulations and many thanks to all that are stepping up to take on leadership positions in your club! I’m so excited to see what this next year brings!
I hope that we will see those new club officers and new members at our upcoming training event. Governor Elect Kathy and her team are in the process of finalizing our plans for our Soroptimist Development Retreat (SDR) in August. The SDR Leadership Team is working hard to finalize our workshop schedule and presenters. Our theme for SDR is “Super Star Dreamers” with a Superhero type of feel. Look for the registration link to register coming soon.
Don’t forget we have our Federation Chairs available to assist clubs with the focus areas of Membership, Fundraising, Public Awareness and Programs. Our region leadership team is readily available to assist with any upcoming program meetings, club planning retreats and trainings as needed. Just send and email or reach out to me and I’ll put you in touch with one of our region leaders.
Have a safe 4 th of July holiday!

Important Message from SIA:
Make sure your mail gets to SIA—send it to their new PO Box!
Checks, applications, forms, and other important documents should no longer be sent to

Dues Renewal and Insurance Changes
It's that time of year again when dues are due! Soroptimist International of the Americas and Sierra Nevada Region dues are due July 1. Please have them in to SIA and SNR no later than July 31 to maintain good standing with the federation and region.
You should have gotten an email from SIA President Dr. Ginger Cole regarding SIA dues and insurance changes. In the email was a link to Frequently Asked Questions that outlines SIA dues for 2025-26, and discusses changes to insurance in regards to alcohol service at Soroptimist events. Club leadership should read this thoroughly and reach out to SIA with questions.
For region dues renewal, please send in the following to the address on the remittance form:
-
2025-2026 SNR Annual Remittance form, found here
- A copy of your club Roster from SIA, in pdf form (if you don't have access to this, send in an internal club roster)
-
5008 forms for any new members
-
A check made out to Sierra Nevada Region in the amount of $25 x total number of members.
If you have any questions, please reach out to me via email at snrtreasurer@soroptimistsnr.org
If you have already mailed your dues to the region, no problem! I'll reach out if I have any questions.

The Ruby Award for SNR has officially wrapped up for this year — but not to worry, we’ll soon be on the lookout for our 2026 recipient!
This year, we received 13 incredible nominations. A panel of five dedicated judges, including myself, had the tough job of selecting just one honoree from a group of truly phenomenal women. Our judging panel included:
- Ruby Sutton – Chair of MS Elko County, Miss Elko County’s Outstanding Teen, and Little Miss
- Shabonya Dutton – Owner of State Farm Insurance
- Elaine Cassell – Soroptimist International of Pahrump Valley
- Marcella Syme – Managing Broker, Signature Realty
- Allison Anderson – Soroptimist International of Elko
Every nominee was inspiring, and the work these women are doing is nothing short of amazing.
If we could give everyone an award, we absolutely would!
But this year’s celebration ended with a resounding cheer for our 2025 Ruby Award recipient: Brenda Sandquist from SI Carson City, nominated by SI/Carson City.
Brenda is the founder of Xquisite, a nonprofit established in 2012 with a powerful mission — to walk alongside survivors of sex trafficking, sexual assault, and intimate terrorism (also known as domestic violence). Through her work, Brenda helps survivors reclaim their lives, rebuild their strength, and become Diamond Strong.
Her vision led to the creation of the Diamond Strong Freedom Center in Carson City — a safe haven providing free, confidential, and compassionate services. The center is committed to bringing hope, courage, and a voice to survivors, empowering them to live healthy, flourishing lives without judgment or conditions. Brenda’s passion lies in helping survivors realize that their dreams are not only valid — they’re absolutely possible.
To support her incredible work, Brenda’s organization received a $1,000 donation for her charity.
https://www.xquisite.org/
We’re so proud to honor Brenda and grateful to all the nominees for the important work they do. Stay tuned — we’ll be ready to celebrate another incredible woman in 2026!
