Governor Stacey's Message

Hello Sierra Nevada Region Members, Friends and Sponsors,

As I write this on the eve of November 15th, I would like to remind you that November 15th is a very important date for our clubs. We have the Live Your Dream Portal closing at the end of the day, we need to make sure all club treasurers have submitted a Form 990 to the IRS, and we have our Sierra Nevada Region Nomination close for those running for our Region Nominations committee.

On top of that we have two clubs celebrating charter anniversaries today: SI South Yuba and SI Trinity County.

Earlier this week Gov Elect Kathy, and I were on a Region Governor and Governor Elect virtual call with SIA HQ. So much great information is coming your way for 2025! Our agenda for this call included the following topics: Member Code of Conduct, the 49th Biennial Convention in South Korea, content for the 2025 Region Conferences and an update on the ongoing technology transformation going on at SIA.

Let’s start off with the topic of the Member Code of Conduct. SIA’s Chief

Impact and Engagement Officer Iesha D. Brown, reported on July 5th, 2024,

SIA’s Board of Directors approved SIA’s first ever member and leader code

of conduct. During that meeting in July, SIA staff were tasked with

documenting a high-level framework providing guidance to our members

and leaders if the code of conduct was breached. The board approved the

following process to resolve this process. Generally, conflicts or grievances

fall into two categories. Personality conflicts and Governance related

conflicts. There are now tier processes that club, the Region and SIA will

follow. As soon as these slides become available, we will share them with

clubs through our Eblast. SIA HQ will launch an Open Call for volunteers in

December for a work group to document the governance process. Call for

volunteers will close in January 2025, recommendations from this group will

be submitted to SIA President Dr. Ginger Cole by mid-February and you

will see a kick-off of this information in mid-March of 2025. If you think you

would like to volunteer for this SIA Work Group, please apply when the call

becomes available in December.

Next, we discussed the 49th Biennial Convention in South Korea and the

mandatory convention fee. I spoke a little about this at the fall district

meetings. Make sure your club’s budget for this mandatory fee. We suggest

half this year and then half in the next club year. The SIA Convention in

Incheon, South Korea will be held July 22 – 25, 2026. SIA HQ has pledged

that for future conventions they will provide much earlier notification about

the mandatory club convention fee. It was suggested that clubs should

expect a similar price point for future convention fees. This was brought

before the SIA board of directors October 2024 meeting. Why is there a

mandatory Convention Club fee? This fee helps SIA afford the General

Membership Business Meeting, and Convention and related expenses.

This fee covers one delegate’s registration from each club. This fee must

be paid per SIA’s procedures by every SIA club whether a club sends a

delegate or not. At the October SIA Board of Directors meeting, they

approved the following: a $25 increase to the mandatory convention fee

resulting in a $825 mandatory convention fee for the 49th Biennial

Convention. They cited the declining number of SIA clubs and the

increased costs for events as their reasoning for this increase. SIA will

invoice for the mandatory convention club fee on or before January 15,

2026. The fee is payable to SIA no later than March 15, 2026. Clubs that

do not pay SIA by 15, 2026 or have a payment plan in place by that date

will be assessed 10% of the Mandatory Convention Club fee ($82.50).

Initial communications to club Presidents and Treasurers will occur by the

end of this month. Follow-up communications and planning will occur in

December of 2025 and then January through March of 2026 SIA HQ will

have on-going communications about this mandatory fee. One last item on

this topic was the SIA Board did approve the following: to update the SIA

procedures section C. Fees; Item #5. To eliminate convention fees for clubs

chartered or reinstated as of July 1 of the club year preceding a convention.

So, this will be effective starting on July 1, 2025, for the new club year. If

you have any questions about this or anything else, please reach out to

either Gov Elect Kathy or me.

I know it’s a lot to take in and take back to your clubs for discussion. You’ll

see more in our upcoming Eblasts about some of the other topics we

discussed.

With our Region’s Fall District Meetings behind us we also want to hear

from you, the members who attended our Fall District meetings. We have

put together a POST Meeting Survey to help us make our next round of

meetings even better. If you attended one of our Fall District Meetings,

please help us out by doing our survey.

Looking forward to hearing all about the fundraisers and events in our

Region this holiday season. Make sure to submit your flyer and information

to the Eblast and share with all the clubs and members in our region. Just

send to the email at the bottom of this eblast at least 3 days prior to our

publication dates of the 1st and 15th of each month. Till next time,

With gratitude,

SNR Eblast Coordinator Update

Hello Sierra Nevada Region Clubs!

My name is Babette Maiss and I am a Member of SI/Bidwell Rancho.

I have taken on the role as your new SNR Eblast coordinator for the 2024-26 Biennium. Kind of fits right in with some of the past roles I have loved taking on within the SNR organization. I have taken the time to "clean" up our Constant Contact Email Roster. The Eblast Roster reflects your Club's Roster. Please get in touch with me if you need to update your email address or want to use a different one. We are trying to have one email per Member assigned.

If you don't get your Eblast, always make sure to check in your Spam inbox first, as often times mailing programs like this, identify the mail as Spam. Reach out for help.

For more tips on getting your club's Eblast, events, flyers etc. published in the SNR edition, please scroll to the bottom of the Eblast submission guidelines.

Thank you so much and I am looking forward to putting together the SNR Eblast twice a month.

A Message from our Federation Fundraising Chairs

At the Fall District Meetings, Federation Fundraising Co-Chairs, Ann Bryant and Emily Ziser,

presented on philanthropy and growing a consistent donor base through club fundraisers and

events. Enhancing donor engagement is particularly important because it strengthens donor

relationships, increases fundraising success and boosts club visibility. Examples of fundraising

events that can help grow a consistent donor base for clubs include hosting a trivia night, a give-

back night at a restaurant, a movie screening in a local park, or hosting a catered dinner with a

silent auction and raffle. These events not only help raise funds but also build a sense of

community and engagement around your club.

A critical element to engaging your donor base is recognizing corporate sponsors both during

and after your fundraising event. A couple strategies are to assign specific areas or auction

items to sponsors, allowing them to have their names prominently displayed, and to include

sponsor logos in your event program, presentation and script. Some effective post-event

engagement strategies include sending thank you notes and social media engagement by

tagging corporate sponsors. By incorporating these recognition strategies, we not only show the

appreciation of the generosity of our sponsors and donors but also encourage their ongoing

support, ultimately enhancing the success of our events.

Finally, cultivating and nurturing relationships with your donors is essential to maintaining their

engagement and support. You can do this by providing updates on ongoing projects and

sharing success stories. Your club can also extend invitations to donors for other events or

engagement opportunities. This could include volunteer opportunities, special events, or DIBI

workshops. Personal invitations make donors feel valued and connected to the cause. By

continuously cultivating relationships with your donors, you ensure they feel appreciated and

involved in our mission.

For more information, you can find this and other presentations on our region website and

YouTube channel! The presentation is about 10 minutes long and would be perfect for a

program meeting or a SOLT (Soroptimist Orientation and Leadership Training) moment on your

meeting agenda.

For questions about fundraising and cultivating your donor base, please reach out to us at

fundraising@soroptimistsnr.org.

Thank you! Ann & Emily

UpliftHER and You!

UpliftHER is a new member engagement initiative empowering women and girls. This exciting concept was first discussed at the 48th Annual Convention in Dublin last July. SIA also provided me with a PowerPoint Presentation to be shared at our Fall District Meetings. If you weren’t able to attend, here is the link. Watch it so you’ll have “all the Deets!” (Details)

The Initiative is to help women and girls overcome a specific obstacle each quarter, as it pertains to them.

Here are the four times and focus areas:

October – Intimate Partner Violence

January - Trafficking

March – Single Parenting

May – Period Poverty

Watch the UpliftHER video to hear ideas for projects. SIA realizes that you may already have your hands full with existing projects in your community. However, is there some existing program or project that you are currently providing in your community that could be tweaked to fit this initiative? If you have a question about eligibility, you can contact me at Program@Soroptimistsnr.org or Jackie Schrauger at Program@Soroptimist.org.

Remember to share your projects with #SoroptimistsUpliftHER!

Big Goal Accelerator Projects

Now that you’ve had your club retreat and have planned out your year, let’s talk about Big Goal Accelerator Projects (BGAP).

What are you already doing that could be considered a BGAP? Or have you started a new project? Remember, you must meet all of the criteria for your idea to be eligible:

  • Work only with women and/or girls who are facing obstacles who are not already served by or counted under the Dream Programs (Live Your Dream Awards and Dream It, Be It)
  • Provide access to education with the ultimate goal of economic empowerment
  • Be a Soroptimist-led hands-on project
  • Be reported to SIA through the official reporting link

Maybe you can partner with another nonprofit in your community that is already working with this community. Do they have an unmet need that you can address? And, if you were helping an organization that deals with intimate partner violence, then you’re also meeting the October goal of UpLiftHER. As long as it is Soroptimist-led, you can submit it.

Here are the links to the BGAP Quick Guide and Project Club Toolkit.

Last year, 15 Clubs in our region submitted BGAPs; let’s increase that by 10% this month!

If you have any questions, please reach out to me at (916) 826-9325 or email me at Program@SoroptimistSNR.org.

The Live Your Dream application system will close on November 15.

The application system will remain open for club chairs to access their applications after the November 15th deadline.

If an application was marked "Incomplete" and sent back from edits, that applicant will still have access to their application and will be able to resubmit it. We recommend giving them a deadline and following up with them to make sure it gets resubmitted.

If your local club deadline is after November 15th, women can still apply using the PDF application:

The Application System will close to women applying on the international application deadline, November 15th, and cannot accommodate varying deadlines across different clubs and regions. The November 15th deadline was chosen years ago after a discussion with region and club leadership in an effort to accommodate clubs who had early deadlines in September and October, and clubs who had later deadlines in December and January.

Your club is welcome to accept PDF applications after the November 15 deadline when the application system closes to new applications. Please incorporate the PDF application with your judging process. It cannot be added to the application system. If a PDF application is selected as a recipient, you will report it on the online club reporting form and upload the application/references if it is your club's top recipient.

How can we share an application(s) with another club?

Please review the application for eligibility and mark the application as Complete and Ready to judge in the Confirm Application Eligibility stage

When the application is in the Indicate Your Club’s Decision stage, you can request to share the application with another club. Please remember that the other club must have agreed to accept this application!

Have the below information ready, because you will need to include this in the request:

-Receiving club name and club number

-Receiving club chair's name and email address

We haven't received any applications, what can we do?

In addition to your local recruitment efforts, we recommend you contact other local clubs, your district, or your region chair to see if any clubs nearby an abundance of applications have, they can share. If another club has applications to share with you, that club should mark this application to be shared in the Indicate Your Club's Decision stage. They will be asked for the new club's name, club ID, club chair name, and email address, so please be sure to provide all this information to them if you agree to accept an application from their club. SIA will transfer the application(s). This is a manual process, so we appreciate your patience!

If you are not receiving applications from women in your local area, or there aren't other clubs with applications to share, you can submit a Non-Local Application Request FormThis will submit a request for applications of women who live more than 75 miles from a Soroptimist club, so the applications will not be local to your area. Headquarters receives hundreds of these applications each year, so accepting some of those applications will give those women a better chance of receiving an award!

If you submit a Non-Local Application Request Form, SIA will reach out after the November 15 deadline to see if you would still like to receive Non-Local Applications.

For more resources on Selecting Recipients, visit our Program Resources section here.

If you have additional questions, feel free to reach out to me or email SIA at lydawards@soroptimist.org

Best regards, Billie

Fall District 4 Meeting Summary

Soroptimist Intl. of Loomis Basin hosted the 2024 District 4 Fall Meeting on September

28. An important kick-off for this year, engaging all members to learn more about our

region, upcoming events, and information on the 4 Soroptimist pillars. In addition, it’s a

great way to meet the Sierra Nevada Region (SNR) Board Members.

We had a successful turnout; 50 Soroptimist members within our district attended. Of

the 9 clubs in our district 8 club presidents were present.

Several video presentations were shared: Human Trafficking, Membership,

Programs, Fundraising and valuable information on how to develop our personal

‘Elevator Speech’ regarding what is Soroptimist and why it is important to us.

Special Guests; Supervising District Attorney Lisa Botwinik and Detective Steve

attended sharing the devastation of Fentanyl Poisoning in Placer County. Very

educational and informative.

It was uplifting to feel all the energy in the room as members learned, shared and

enjoyed the day getting to know one another.
