Governor Stacey's Message
Greetings Sierra Nevada Region!
Wow, I can’t believe it’s already October! I’m so proud of how Sierra Nevada Region’s year has started out. With so many dedicated, hard-working members, we are well on our way to helping even more women and girls reach their full potential through education. Is your club doing anything fun for Soroptimist’s Founders Day on October 3rd? If so, we want to know about it! Just email me at snrgovernor@soroptimistsnr.org. Maybe, you’ll see a little shout out in our next E-blast on October 15th!
As we look back at the month of September, just to recap, Soroptimist International of the Americas, (SIA), has made many changes in projects, reporting and the SIA website, causing us to be on our toes at full attention. Be sure that your club is checking their club email as new information is coming in October and November as well. We are also halfway through our Fall District Meeting schedule. Many thanks go out to the SNR District Directors and Host Clubs for all that they are doing to ensure that our members have an informative District Meeting. As we look forward to October where we will have 3 more Fall District Meetings and we will end the month with our 2nd Board Meeting of this biennium. Be sure to see the call to all of these meetings here on the E-blast.
My hope is that all our SNR Members have checked out the “Soroptimist UpliftHER” video on our SNR YouTube channel or on the SIA YouTube Channel. Just go to @SIAHQ or @sierranevadaregionsoroptimst search on YouTube. Be sure to like and subscribe while you are there. “Soroptimist UpliftHER” is an exciting new member engagement initiative from the program department of Soroptimist International of the Americas.
Once a quarter, SIA will focus on an obstacle that women and girls face on their path to formal education and economic empowerment. SIA headquarters, (SIAHQ), will share information about the obstacle, as well as suggested projects related to that obstacle that also counts towards our Big Goal!
Clubs can participate in the quarterly project focus by sharing SIA posts on social media and posting their own projects with the hashtag #SoroptimistsUpliftHer.
One of the focus areas and suggested topics for the month of October is: Intimate Partner Violence. It is suggested that clubs may partner with a local shelter to provide professional dress clothing for women who have experienced violence and provide training on interview basics, resume writing and career advancement. Be sure to report it as a Big Goal Accelerator Project. This is a completely voluntary initiative, but we do hope members and clubs will be excited to participate.

Until next time,
Yours in Soroptimist,

Governor Elect Kathy's Message
Greetings and Happy Almost Fall!
We are amid the Fall District Meetings with District 6, 5 and 4 already celebrated. What a way to start off the biennium and the club years!
There is so much to learn about Soroptimist and how we can be even more effective in reaching out to the women and girls who need us most! I love hearing from Governor Stacey on what is happening around the Region and the Federation. The Federation chairs and Region coordinators are incredibly talented and have a lot to share. The District Directors are inspiring in their guidance and support of their clubs. So, if you have not been to a meeting, there is still time to go to yours or another district’s.
Note of future events:
- Conference 2025 is June 6-8 at the Atlantis Resort and Casino
- Soroptimist Development Retreat (SDR) 2025 is August 16-17
- SIA Convention 2026 July 22-26 in Incheon, Korea
Look at your clubs’ budgets and start saving now for your delegates to attend. Contact me with any questions regarding these events.
Enjoy!
Kathy Dunbar

It’s that time of year again when we start getting excited about the Live Your Dream Awards. The online Live Your Dream Awards application system opened to accept applications on Aug. 15, 2024. If you’re wondering why we no longer call it the “application portal” our new database has a member portal for member resources. The terminology has been changed to avoid any confusion. SIA staff will now refer to the application portal as the Live Your Dream Awards online application system.
In the meantime, Club LYD chairs can sign the confidentiality agreement which is linked here.
If your club doesn’t have a LYD chair, your club president will need to sign the confidentiality agreement.
Thank you,
Billie Araiza
