Governor Stacey's Message

Greetings Sierra Nevada Region!

First off I want to apologize for the lateness of our E-blast Newsletter. The Region uses the Constant Contact platform for our E-blast Newsletter, and without notice, Constant Contact did a recent update to their platform that wiped out all of our E-blast templates! WHAT?!?! Say it isn't so! Well have no fear, we worked hard these past several days to put together what we could from scratch and we hope that this information is timely and keeps you all informed about what is going on in our Region.

With that said, Fall is in the air! It is my favorite time of year! This past weekend we held our first Fall District Meeting for District 6 in Carson City NV. Thank you to the SI Carson City Club for all their hard work. I can't wait to see everyone at the rest of the upcoming meetings - next up is District 5 in Truckee CA & District 4 in Loomis CA for this month! Then we have District 3 in Elk Grove, CA District 2 in Woodland CA and finally we end with District 1 in Chico, CA. in the month of October. Thanks go out to these host clubs! Make sure to follow the link to register for your District Meeting, we have a lot of new and updated information for Clubs, Presidents and Treasurers from SIA HQ.

Your SNR Leadership team has also been busy putting out the Call and Agenda for the 2nd Sierra Nevada Region Board Meeting of the biennium which will be on Oct 27, in Chico CA following our last Fall District Meeting. Please see the attached information here or on the Region website.

If you have not had the chance, please check out our Sierra Nevada Region YouTube Channel @sierranevadaregionsoroptimist and like and subscribe. We are posting some great information to share with your clubs. One important video is the new Q&A with new SIA President Ginger Cole. Some of you may remember President Ginger as she was our Official SIA Visitor to our Region back in 2022. President Ginger is from the Camino Real Region which is the Los Angeles CA and surrounding areas.

Speaking of SIA - they just put out the latest numbers on the BIG GOAL Progress! Does everyone know what the BIG GOAL is? - The 2021-2031 BIG GOAL is to invest in the dreams of half a million women and girls through access to education. Well new numbers are in!!

Since 2021, 93,085 women and girls have participated in projects that work towards our BIG GOAL, bringing us to 18.6% toward that goal!! That's up from the 11% previously reported earlier this year.

One last quick reminder to clubs that Oct 3rd is Founder's Day. Is your club doing a special program or event to celebrate? Let us know! We would love to know about it! Some clubs are doing a SOLT program around it as well. Until next time, be safe and I'll see you all at the upcoming District Meetings!

With Gratitude,

Stacey Jensen

SNR Governor 2024-2026

Governor Elect Kathy's Message

Greetings members of Sierra Nevada Region!

I am happily anticipating this mid-September weather and so look forward to Fall!

What I am really excited about is attending all the Fall District Meetings starting this weekend!! What a cool way (no pun intended) to learn more about our Region and what has transpired over the Summer from our newly installed Governor Stacey, and the Federation chairs and Pillars. Also, there are sure to be inspirational speakers, camaraderie and FUN!

I encourage you to register if you have not already and if you cannot make your District’s meeting, you are most certainly invited to join in on another District Meeting. You will see the Calls included in this E-blast.

  • Conference 2025 is June 6-8
  • Soroptimist Development Retreat (SDR) 2025 is August 16-17

SOLT Moment

With many clubs coming back in full Soroptimist mode, I want to provide some insight into the Evelyn Holland/SOLT award and the purpose of it. To be a gold star organization we need to continuously prepare for the future whether it be in our quest for the Big Goal, our international presence in helping women and girls achieve, or leadership in our districts and regions. We are Soroptimists!

Having a sustainable plan for Soroptimist Orientation and Leadership Training (SOLT) in our clubs fairly easy to do. Watch the e-Blast for future suggestions for what your club can accomplish. Start now by reviewing the Evelyn Holland/SOLT award form that is on the Sierra Nevada website.

Here are some ideas.

  • Start off the year by attending District meetings to hear from our region officers.
  • Plan a club retreat where you review bylaws, create a plan for the year, assign members to committees and explain each of these endeavors to all members.
  • Provide orientation to all new members and even some not so new.
  • At each meeting, discuss our lingo and interpret acronyms.

Look forward to reviewing some amazing SOLT moments. Take some amazing pictures for me!

Danielle Kennedy, Public Awareness Chair 2024-2026

publicawareness@soroptimistsnr.org

It’s that time of year again when we start getting excited about the Live Your Dream Awards. The online Live Your Dream Awards application system opened to accept applications on Aug. 15, 2024. If you’re wondering why we no longer call it the “application portal” our new database has a member portal for member resources. The terminology has been changed to avoid any confusion. SIA staff will now refer to the application portal as the Live Your Dream Awards online application system.

In the meantime, Club LYD chairs can sign the confidentiality agreement which is linked here.

If your club doesn’t have a LYD chair, your club president will need to sign the confidentiality agreement.

Thank you,

Billie Araiza
