Welcome to a new club year for many of our clubs who were dark over the summer
months. Thanks go out to all of those who attended our Soroptimist Development
Retreat (SDR) in Reno, if you attended, please consider completing our survey
regarding your experience. 2025 SDR Survey
For those of you who missed this year’s SDR, we are working to get all the sessions

With SDR behind us, we are now focusing on our upcoming Fall District Meetings. It’s also that time of year to start thinking about candidates for nominations for 2026-2028 Board of Directors, but also for the upcoming leadership team for 2026-2028. Gov Elect Kathy is busy compiling names for some 82 positions that we have on the region level besides just the Board of Directors. So, if you have any interest in assisting on the region level, this is your chance.
I also had the opportunity to travel back up to Reno this past week at the invitation of SI Sierra Reno Club and was their program speaker and helped to induct three new members! Then the next day I surprised SI Truckee Meadows Club and dropped in on their lunch meeting. Thanks for T-shirt Kay! I’m wearing it proudly. Thank you for all the hospitality.
| | |
Please see the section from SIA about important information regarding updates to the SIA procedures as well as information for club leaders as we start the new club year.
Hope to see you all at the upcoming District Meetings! Till then,
With gratitude and love
Stacey Jensen
Sierra Nevada Region Governor 2024-2026

We are headed for the Fall District Meetings, and I am looking forward to seeing more of you again and maybe for the first time. There is nothing like seeing your peers in this beautiful mission we have as Soroptimists and trading ideas and friendship. I know I am always energized after a meeting!
I am here to answer any questions, receive feedback on SDR or Conference, or just to
chat.
Please take good care,
Kathy

SNR Endowment Grants for Clubs
Does your club have a great idea for a project or program to make a positive impact in your community, but are short on the funds to fuel it? Help is available! The Sierra Nevada Region has our Endowment Fund available for clubs to apply for financial assistance..
.
The Endowment Fund is a grant program that will give up to $1000
to qualifying applicants/clubs. Clubs can be eligible for the grant no more than 2 times for the same project. The grant is for a new project or a continued project. The funds for the
grant are raised from the raffle ticket sales of gift baskets that are donated from our region clubs and raffled off at the Sierra Nevada Region Conference. The application is available on the Sierra Nevada Region website.
The Endowment Committee consists of 4 region members who will review the applications for completeness and then vote whether or not to approve the request before submitting the grant applications to the Sierra Nevada Region Board of Directors for
final approval. There is still time to get your application in for the September 15th deadline! If you can't get it in by then, still apply to be eligible for the spring deadline.
The Endowment Committee and the SNR Board members look forward
to dispersing these funds. I encourage all clubs with new programs to
apply for this Endowment Grant. If you have further questions, please
feel free to contact me at endowment@soroptimistsnr.org

Soroptimist of Placerville (SIP)
Time Capsule
Those attending Soroptimist Development Retreat had a fun surprise on Saturday August 16,2025. Members of SIP opened an envelope left to them on August 16,1985 by members of the time, to be opened in 40 years. We had no idea what was in there!
Found within the envelope. among other things was:
- an article about the founding of the “Mother Soroptimist Club” in Oakland, CA, quoting the slogan “Quality, Harmony, Service” as a guiding principle of every organizer of a Soroptimist Club.
- a proposed budget of $5,870.00 for club year 1985-1986
- an SIP Membership list dated August 16,1985 (40 members)
- the original charter of SIP dated January 7,1939 signed by 17 original members!
- a list of Club Presidents from 1939-1986
- a letter from Gold Country Retirement Community in Placerville, requesting SIP to participate in a Community Time Capsule to be buried in front of their building and not to be opened until 1985!
The last item explains why the envelope was addressed to the Gold Country Retirement Center. Next on my list is to contact Gold Country to follow up on this!
Future article to follow!
This time capsule inspired some clubs who are celebrating milestone birthdays to
do something similar. Thanks to the SIP members in 1985 who started a great
tradition!

SIA’s staff has been working alongside the Board of Directors to develop and launch our first Member and Leader Code of Conduct. This process was spurred by seeing feedback from lapsed member surveys that a lack of civility at the local level was causing members to leave the organization. This Code, which is founded in our shared values and expectations, supports a respectful, safe, and inclusive environment for all members, and is crucial for our continued impact.
SIA Board Director Peggy Gentile-VanMeter shared a presentation at the Leadership Roundtable entitled “Living the Code: Understanding and Upholding SIA’s Member and Leader Code of Conduct.” Due to popular demand, we are now sharing links to the recording of this session in each language. Please share with members to expand understanding of the Member and Leader Code of Conduct. Training for members regarding the code and governance processes will be coming in the next few months, with
the signing period taking place in early 2026. Please see the link here: in English
