Navigating Loss, Uncertainty, Change: 2nd Session, TODAY at Coffee Hour

In these times when so much of what we knew—or thought we knew—has been challenged, many of us have named loss, uncertainty, and change as the deepest realities we’re wrestling with. Melissa Sellevaag, Director of Training of the Wendt Center for Loss, Grief, and Healing will lead her 2nd session on how we name, process, and live with grief and transition. These conversations are grounded in compassion and honesty, offering space for reflection, sharing, and healing within our community of faith.

This offering grows directly out of our parish’s guiding question this year: “What can we do for you?” — a reminder that we walk this journey together, and that healing begins when we show up for one another. Please join us! Our final workshop on 11/30 will cover moving forward and will be led by Miranda Wilson and Kathryn Wood.

All Souls Mementos

Thanks to all who brought in photos and mementos of loved ones for our celebration of the Feast of All Saints and El Dia de los Muertos. Please pick up your items after service this Sunday, 11/16 on the altar in the organ alcove. Blessings!

Thus far in our Stewardship we have raised over $156,000 in pledges for 2026.

St. John’s needs to raise $265,000 in pledge income in 2026.

Your financial support is essential to building the St. John’s community.

If you wish to financially commit to supporting the work of the church in 2026 (in any amount!) please submit your pledge online at stjohnsgeorgetown.org and set up online giving to fulfill your pledge for the year ahead.

Need a boost to get into the Christmas spirit? Volunteer to join our festive Bedeck, Bauble & Beautify Band on November 29th at 10:00 a.m. We’ll dress and adorn the church inside and out with garlands and bows, trim the tree, and joyously connect to all the things that signal love coming down among us at Christmas. Contact Virginia Elgin with questions: sselginmd@verizon.net.

The entire Parish of St. John’s Georgetown is invited to a traditional ADVENT WREATH MAKING workshop directly after the service on 11/30. All greens and supplies included!

The Hyde School Angel Tree is coming on Sunday November 23 and wrapped and tagged gifts will be due by Sunday December 14. The following week, the wagons will be filled with gifts and trundled across the street to the school.

Every year St. John's partners with Hyde-Addison Elementary School across the street to make the holidays merrier for several families of school children there. We work with the social workers to identify the families. Each child receives 3 gifts, and parents receive a gift plus a Visa gift card.

The Angel Tree will be in the Parish Hall and decorated with cards containing the name of the child and their wish. There will be a card for the parents too. This season we’ll give gifts to at least 6 families. It’s so easy to spread Joy: Just take a card from the tree, fill in your contacts on the sign-up sheet, and return the wrapped gift with the card attached to the church by December 14. You can brighten the holidays for a child from Hyde-Addison. Contact Ann La Porta: a_laporta@yahoo.com with any questions.

Flower Donations

As we prepare to celebrate the season, we invite you to contribute to the beauty of our church this Christmas by making a donation toward Christmas flowers. Your gift helps us add flowers to enhance our worship and celebrate the joy of Christ's birth. A contribution of $50 or more helps fund Christmas flowers as well as those Sundays with no flower signups. To donate, please use the GIVE button on our homepage: stjohnsgeorgetown.org. Donations may be made in honor of loved ones, and their names will be included in a special listing in the Christmas Eve bulletin
