Navigating Loss, Uncertainty, Change: Session #2, 11/16 During Coffee Hour

In these times when so much of what we knew—or thought we knew—has been challenged, many of us have named loss, uncertainty, and change as the deepest realities we’re wrestling with. In response, we are grateful to welcome Melissa Sellevaag, Director of Training of the Wendt Center for Loss, Grief, and Healing to lead her second special session on how we name, process, and live with grief and transition. These conversations are grounded in compassion and honesty, offering space for reflection, sharing, and healing within our community of faith. The first session generated a wave of healing to a number of very appreciative members who stayed for this most timely discussion.

Each session stands on its own but also builds on the other for those who wish to attend both. Whether your losses are personal, communal, or the ache of living in uncertain times, you are invited to come as you are. This offering grows directly out of our parish’s guiding question this year: “What can we do for you?” — a reminder that we walk this journey together, and that healing begins when we show up for one another. Please join us! Questions? email Laura at laura@stjohnsgeorgetown.org

Food, Formula & Diapers Needed

People throughout the DMV are suffering from food insecurity. Justicia Alimentaria (Food Justice) is working to get food to those in need. Thanks to all of you who continue to bring rice, beans and masa to St John’s. We also need Diapers, size 6 and infant formula. Please bring those items on Sunday or drop off at the church office during the week. Not sure what to buy? Make your donation by contacting office@stjohnsgeorgetown.org and a volunteer will use those funds to purchase supplies.

Parish Small Group Listening Sessions

The Clergy and Vestry invite you to join a listening session, to be held following coffee hours for the next several weeks during our Stewardship Campaign. Come, let us know how we can serve you in the year ahead – and how you can help us serve others. Together we’ll strengthen the Koinonia we share here at St. John’s and let its love overflow into the wider world that so desperately needs it. Sunday listening sessions will be held for 4 consecutive weeks starting November 2nd. We encourage you to take a Sign-Up sheet from the narthex or from Blake Hall, then circle two times that you would be able to attend, and we’ll assign you to one of the sessions. All sessions start right after coffee hour, at approximately 12:00pm and last about 30 minutes. Treats will be served!

Great Patrol Thanks and Sign Up:

Thank you so much to everyone making sandwiches and assembling meals for the previous Patrol. I hope we didn’t miss anyone: Jessica Heywood, Tammy Cox, Bob and Eileen Wallace, Sommers Pierce, Julie Cooke, Jocelyn Dyer, and the Ryans. A mighty but small team assembled the meals on Monday and loaded the GP van - Carol Dawson, Roger Streitmatter, Patti Thorp and Sandra the tireless Salvation Army van driver. Cameron Sherr hopped on the van at the first stop and distributed meals. We truly appreciate everyone's devotion and help. MORE volunteers are needed for November Grate Patrol on Sunday November 9th and Monday November 10th. We'll be making 300 sandwiches on Sunday November 9th after the service. Please bring a loaf of bread, a pound of meat, and a pound of cheese.

Here is the volunteer sign-up. Look forward to seeing you!
