SOBP April 2020

Folks,
As we all adapt to what it is an ever changing situation associated with COVID-19, I can only hope this newsletter finds you and your loved ones safe and well. For many of us, this modified reality brought several new challenges, roles and responsibilities. We adapted our clinical work in a matter of weeks, if not days, to continue serving those struggling with mental illness. Many research projects are in pause or, if possible, carried out remotely. Our annual SOBP meeting is cancelled. But we must persevere and adapt. Here are some of the most recent updates: the computational psychiatry satellite meeting will be online (more information below), accepted posters may be uploaded electronically, and planned symposia will be recorded and uploaded to our channels for virtual presentations in the upcoming weeks. Stay tuned for more information when the first symposium is ready!
The science goes on, but I will miss one of the best parts of the meeting: the possibility to network with you!
Stay safe, stay well.

75th Annual Meeting for the Society of Biological Psychiatry
“
Variability: The Good, the Bad, and the Interesting
”
|
|
In response to the rapidly changing circumstances associated with the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), the SOBP Executive Council, Council and 2020 Program Committee Chair have made the decision to cancel the 2020 SOBP Annual Meeting.
In coming to this decision, SOBP leadership carefully weighed the risks to attendees and their families, colleagues, and patients. SOBP has concerns about the risk to healthcare systems given the medical profile of SOBP attendees and the consequences of potentially displacing healthcare workers during this critical time. Considering all the information available at the moment, SOBP leadership believes that cancelling the in-person conference is the responsible action to take. The health and safety of members, attendees, and the community is its top priority.
The SOBP Executive Office is working closely with SOBP leadership to appropriately respond to questions regarding administrative aspects that need to be considered. We recognize all the hard work that so many have put into preparing for the SOBP Annual Meeting. Please stay tuned for additional details. We thank you in advance for your understanding and patience as we work out the many details.
SOBP is excited to offer our 2020 Symposia as virtually recorded sessions and to offer e-posters for accepted abstracts! SOBP will release the virtual recordings and e-posters starting in May 2020.
