Message From the SOBP President
Dear Members and Friends of the Society of Biological Psychiatry,
Happy New Year! As we welcome 2025, I am thrilled to share that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the Society of Biological Psychiatry. For eight decades, the SOBP has been at the forefront of advancing our understanding of the biological basis of mental health and illness, and this milestone is a testament to the enduring contributions of our members.
To commemorate this special year, our upcoming annual meeting focuses on “AI and mental health” promises to be one of the most exceptional yet. The program will feature an outstanding lineup of world-renowned plenary speakers, cutting-edge research, and opportunities for collaboration that reflect the dynamic and innovative spirit of our community.
I am also excited to introduce a new initiative, Neural Palette, which celebrates the intersection of artificial intelligence, creativity, neuroscience, and mental health. This initiative will explore how emerging technologies are reshaping our understanding of brain function and mental health, fostering dialogue between science, art, and innovation.
As we honor our rich history and embrace the future, I invite you to join us in celebrating the Society’s 80th anniversary and contributing to the ongoing growth of our field.
I wish you all a successful and fulfilling 2025 and I look forward to seeing many of you at the annual meeting!
Warm Regards,

Dr. Janine Knauer-Arloth
We had the chance to learn from Dr. Janine Knauer-Arloth about her work recently published in Biological Psychiatry. Dr. Knauer-Arloth is a Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry, within the Medical Genomics Lab. Her laboratory recently identified genomic changes that occur with glucocorticoid stimulation, providing new insight into the effects of stress systems on the brain and periphery.
