Oyster reproduction is compromised by acidification experienced seasonally in coastal regions
A recent study published by Boulais et al. (2017) in Scientific Reports showed eastern oyster oogenesis was disrupted in severe OA conditions. Though reproduction was resilient to near-future OA conditions, anthropogenic CO
2 could exacerbate seasonal acidification leading to a bottleneck in reproduction.
